£500 Gaming rig!

And then cry in despair as your PC fails within weeks? ;)

Troll post ignore this guy, seriously.

Be aware that the 5850 is PRE-order, so you need to check that it fits the time you want to wait, it's a fantastic deal though. I would get 2 personally if you can stretch that far.

How long does the "pre-order" usually take to be eventually delivered?

At that price it looks like a steal and as I need to get a decent card, it might be worth the wait if it isn't too long! ;)

lmao, I'm a troll? Do you pay attention to GH?:p

Anyway, yes I'm aware that it was the Gold stuff that got **** reviews and died all the time and has subsequently been 'fixed' but it's not the best or most reliable brand around, and I for one would not like to invest in something from a company that is shortly pulling out of the RAM sector - even if OcUK has said RMA will still be avaliable.

The fact that you can get better ram from more reliable sources for a similar price doesn't help the situation either does it? ;)

Worth asking in the thread, found here.

The last pre-order was around 2 weeks or so iirc!

EDIT: It appears to be next month - but when I'm not sure.

The i5-2500K is a great chip, it does make you take hard choices on other components at this price point.

Here's an alternative.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £107.99
1 x AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £95.99
1 x Antec TruePower New Modular 750W Power Supply - With FREE 3D Mark 2011 Advance £84.98
1 x Coolermaster HAF 912 Plus Case - Black £59.99
1 x Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £49.99
1 x OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3SOE1600LV4GK) £39.98
1 x Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £39.98
1 x Titan Fenrir Evo CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156//LGA1366/AMD K8/AM2/AM2+/AM3) £32.99
1 x Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £540.89 (includes shipping : £12.50).

The case has room for big cards (removable hard drive cage) and will fit a 5850 with the cage, the PSU is powerful and a little bit modular, the 955BE while no match for the 2500K, it will still perform well for a couple of years. I've added the Fenrir, a high performance cooler. If the extra £30 is too much for you budget, stick to the stock CPU cooler, and upgrade later for overclocking.

The potential upgrades would be a sandybridge / bulldozer mobo and processor, a big graphics card, and some case fans for added cooling.

So there, a decent system, with upgrade potential.

EDIT : The card has PCI-e connectors at the back, not at the side like the reference design. Still should be no problem with that case, but you may meed to remove the HD bay, and fit your drives at the bottom HD bay.

Cheers for that!
I might as well order one at that price as you can't go wrong and I'm not in a desperate rush and it would just finish this rig off. ( then it's a SandyBridge 2500k build for my other rig )

Nice setup, I'd say use

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1275

which is two pound cheaper, has a free game and is retail so you can drop the cpu cooler if you want, which will give you the 5850 with practically the same price build. Result :D
