500GHz Processor!

The BBC article is wrong, mainly because of an appalling press release by IBM and a significant lack of understanding of what is being discussed.

The chip being discussed is an analogue signal generator capable of 500ghz switching speed, in other words it's a transistor that can switch that fast. It's not a processor, or even anything close to one, it's made in an entirely different way and peforms an entirely different function.
