500px - post your highest pulse

This recent one got to 93.4

I must be doing something wrong with Flickr, can't seem to get many comments on my photos or likes as it were. But then i don't tend to upload that much content. Still if anyone has any advice would be appreciated then maybe id use it more.

Flickr is very odd. Sometimes I get comments when I add a photo to the least populated groups, then like at the moment I'll not see a comment for months despite large volumes of views. More often than not, if someone comments, it's out of the blue.

^^ It's not the population of a group that matters, it's the contribution ratio from the number of viewers to the number of contributions made. So if you have a group with a few dozen members but then next to no contributions, your photos will sit on most recent for a fair while so people could be flicking through a month later and find your photos, whereas if you post on the biggest groups quite often it will be a matter of minutes before your photo has been swallowed by a load of others and so nobody sees it

Yeah, I wasn't really clear what I meant. I have a skull cleaving headache :(

What I mean is that I can post in large/small busy/virtually inactive groups and see similar levels of interest. In fact the last 3 batches of photos I've uploaded are a good example. I only added the ones I'm happy(ish) with to groups, and got more views on others not in groups. An example is my friend Cati, her photo is getting more views than any other photo and it's just a headshot from when she walked up to the stage to chat to us. Far too many teenage males on flickr ;)

The secret to flickr isn't with groups, its with contacts. If you add a few people to your contacts, you'll soon see that loads of people start to add you to their contacts and you can return the favour. Means that your work is spread to and through them and vice versa. The amount of people that add me to contacts per day is constantly increasing. A few months ago it would be like 1-3 people max per day, yet now its into the 20's per day. Now I've got 1208 people who have me on their contacts list, which is rather nice. To get a similar exposure using 500px, you'd need to hit popular and a pulse rate of 99+ to get noticed by that many people. Sad thing is you'd need to do that on EVERY photo! I could upload a photo of a toilet seat and it would still be potentially seen by more people just using flickr :P

^^ True that. I've almost given up posting self-portraiture work on 500px etc. as it's much easier to just get one of my friends over to model for and BOOM 50 comments -_-

I'd like comments that contain more than "your image was seen on..." :p I used to find Redbubble was good for decent photographers commenting, but they changed how redbubble was looked at and now it's like a ghost town comment wise.

Yup, I've also pretty much abandoned it as of the last 3-4 months as there is never a discussion or interest in comments, instead its just people wanting you to vote and favourite their work back (aka pulse rate whoring). I've got a nice little core of friends on flickr who really do the rounds on any new shots I upload so I take the time to go over their stuff and critique when its asked for or simply praise it if not (if I like it of course!)

I think you're in my contact list on flickr. I added a few people from the ocuk group, but can't remember who :D

:D Just added you to my contacts so if I see anything I like in my contacts list photostream of yours, expect a comment :P

The flag shots good, especially for 5000 ISO lol. Must have been a right pain in the rear to clean that up.

My fiancé brought these vitamin tablets over from bulgaria (where shes from) which I've now stolen from her for some amusing shots I've got planned as they are the same shape and colour as sildenafil (viagra!) I've got some decent ideas but I'll have to see if they work over the weekend lol. If they do I'll stick them on flickr!

Willis, that image is stunning... Awesome work...

Also loving the Sunflower, beautiful shot..

I too spend hours on 500px... I have beat my initial highest pulse of 95.1... Which I'm pleased about and I use it to inspire me to shoot and improve my work.

Only just noticed this. I didn't clean that shot up at all. I don't like using noise reduction in processing as I want the images as sharp as possible. Some of the other stuff I do softens it a bit as it is, mainly because I suck at processing colour shots lately :D

If you put a half naked female on 500px you are bound to do well. Look at upcoming for an idea of what I mean, as its filled with glamour and nudes. They usually go really high 90s, but never hit the highest levels. For that you are best off doing the cliched "woman with a head scarf" eyes portrait photo with your studio lights and add a bit of extra oomph in PP. Bet you'd hit 98+ if you had a good go at it and uploaded at the right time! Sadly I can't have a go myself as I don't have access to a suitable model as the mrs is in london!

Yeah I know what you mean and I also rarely use noise reduction. I seem to be processing less and less monotone stuff as well to the point where I haven't done one in around 6 weeks now, yet taken a decent amount of nice colourful shots!
