55" TV owners - how far away do you sit?

@Gray2233 samsung lsp9t £3k gogogo :p

I'd actually been saving for a new TV until recently, aiming for an upgrade over what I had. My old workhorse died so I got a bit of a free replacement with mid range 65" TV. Given it was outside of my consideration, I've been playing with it a tad but will probably end up giving it to family.

I'm actually eyeballing a Hisense P1 (Laser) as I can get one via a friend discount for roughly a grand, but the whole "free TV" due to my old one being kind enough to kick the bucket has me wondering if I should spend a bit more time saving.

How are projectors in bright rooms these days? Id go for one but don't fancy shutting curtains whenever I want to watch TV. I made the mistake of "only" going for a 65 and I sit about 4.5 metres away (Mrs didn't want bigger, and tbh the cost doubled).
Watching TV is fine, but video games (especially split screen) get tricky.

Measuring from my 55" TV to where my head would be on the sofa is about 2.7m. It's an ideal size but I will probably look at going up to 65" when I eventually decide to upgrade.

Some are pretty good from what I understand, they can get pretty bright and there are anti-glare type screens.

I'd definitely read into it more, I'm on a bit of a research journey with the tech at the moment and I'm not 100% clued up on everything yet.

Thanks for the reponses guys. I've been using a projector for the last few years, roughly a 90" image at 3m viewing distance. It's great for films but a lot bigger than I need most of the time. The problem with a huge TV (unlike a projector) is that they take up so much space and dominate the room. In the flat I'm buying, the only place I can put a TV is in front of the window, so a big TV is basically going to block all the light out completely. That's why I'm leaning towards a 55". Bit worried now though after so many people here are saying it'll be too small :(
Code:
Ideal viewing distances for 4K TV
TV size (inches) Distance
42 1.28m (4.2ft)
43 1.32m (4.3ft)
46 1.4m (4.6ft)
50 1.52m (5ft)
55 1.68m (5.5ft)
65 1.98m (6.5ft)
75 2.29m (7.5ft)
85 2.59m (8.5ft)
when i next "upgrade" in a few years time would be getting a 85 inch tbh

These sizes just sound insane to me, to be honest. I don't need my daily casual TV viewing to feel like I'm sitting in an IMAX cinema.

@SheepBeast personally I feel 55 is too small. Just measure it out and put some items at the corners of where the TV screen would be and see if it's suitable for you.

75 inch at 3m would occupy about the same field of view of a 27 inch monitor at an arms length.
Sauce for the above comment: my eyeballs

Those are ideal movie viewing distances, Rtings have a table for mixed viewing and the distances are much more reasonable.

Don't forget widescreen. 55" isn't that big once you watch a mega super wide epic. Worse if it's non anamorphic (old DVD for example)

A non anamorphic movie will have larger borders than that, add another 20% or so?
