550D or 600D - Help me decide

Please elaborate on them being 'the most point invention ever'.

I don't see a single disadvantage in a camera having one. They don't get in the way or add any bulk and the fact that cameras (even high end bodies) are still being produced without them is mind blowing to me.

Yes I'll agree you don't 'need' a tilt screen but they are bloody useful, especially on the Sony bodies where you get the benefit of full phase detect while using live view.

If I want a low angle shot I don't have guess or put my face in the dirt to frame the shot how I want. If I want a high angle shot I simply pull the screen and look-up and hey presto I can frame they shot properly.

this ^^

I tried the code and it applied it at checkout, but then when I enquired about it it is not valid for DSLRs

edit: Actually it's not working now. Maybe it expired. Kinda worked last night, a bit. Oh well.

Still for £499 -£40 cashback... it's still a good price, with free remote and battery?

Is right. :)

I think thats a great price. :)

Hey,

I'm settled on either the 550d or the 600d as they fit my price range.

The 550D is available refurb from Canon for £382.xx with the 18-55mm IS lense.

The 600D is currently available for £436.xx and includes an extra battery and a remote. (New) or £399 (refurb) but whether it has extra battery or remote I don't know.

Which would you choose, and why?

Thanks

The 600D is £370 with the kit lens at *******.com

Are they legit?

I wouldn't be recommending them if they were scammers. :p

Lots of people on here have ordered from them and similar places like digitalrev.

you really dont need a tilt screen, there the most pointless invention ever. even when theres a use for it there still massively impractical and offer about 1% extra help compared to norm screens

Obviously someone with no experience of using them. If I want to take a low angle shot, I don't want to have to lie in the dirt to do it, and I don't want to stand up to shoot a video for hours on end. Having a flip screen helps to no end with practicality.

don't see anywhere on that site that shows you an address for them, don't like dealing with sites that don't have addresses published, call me paranoid but .......

Rubbish.

Muddy woodland floor taking a handheld macro shot means you need to either shoot blind or get on the floor with the camera so you can see whats going on, even with live view. Tilting screens are an absolute godsend in that regard. You are never constrained to the angle of the shot because you can't physically see what you are focusing on. If you in a crowd of people, you can put the camera high above your head and still see exactly what you are looking at and the composition of the shot.

I wish it was a feature for the more expensive models as turning the screen around when not in use is also a great way of protecting the glass.

With a credit card the payment is refunded if a business defaults on an order. Nothing to worry about. Though ******* is a very widely used website with a history of good service.

I'm surprised at the amount of people in love with the tilting screen. It's just another thing to go wrong in my book!

On the other had i use an external monitor.

oh ok now i see the benefits of using and external monitor in the middle of a rain soaked forest with no plug sockets over the use of a tilting screen

I do how ever see where you are coming from in the studio or at home :)

Ok guys - I'm going with the 600D, just wondering whether I should buy some filters perhaps primarily to just keep dust off the lense? If so what would you suggest?

OP, if it helps, i used digitalrev a couple of weeks ago, but i asked on here first if anyone had used them. Everyone came back with a "yes, they are reputable and good" same kind of response with pana-whotsit.
I ended up buying the 600D with 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm lens, cleaning bag and 8gb sd card for £522 inc vat and delivery from China. It took 4 working days. John Lewis would have cost well over £700 for that lot.
Service couldn't have been better....and the wife loves her new camera. :)
But, to be safe deffo pay by credit card.
