hi i got a weird problem

heres my computer:
Win 7 64bit
2500k @ 4.0 ghz
asrock z77 extreme 4 mobo
8gbs ddr3 ram
ocz 128mbs SSD vertex 3
samsung f1 1TB
asus 560 ti sli
OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W

The weird thing is i not actually using the 3d vision i just turn it off in game

if i enable 3d in nvidia control panel my performance drops in 3 games i tested far cry 3, natural selection 2 and arma 2 operation arrow head the fps go down to about 60 - 40 in ns2 but i i turn it off again my fps 80 - 100.

Ive just reinstalled my drivers thinking nvidia inspector had mess some think up but notice my performacne was good until i enabled 3d vision in control panel.

thanks.

You do realise that what ever fps you get when 3D is running is halved? if you are getting 40fps, that would be 80 fps (2 images running at once).

Hope that helps :)

i enabled 3d vision in nvidia console but i turned it off in game so im playing without 3d vision should i still get bad performance?

I always have a quick link to enable and disable 3DVision on the start menu. Try adding a short cut like mine and disable before starting the game and then see what fps you get. If you disable with CTRL+T, it may not do the job properly?

Give my suggestion a shot and report back bud :)

3D uses very little VRAM but does require a fair bit of grunt (which you have). I think it isn't switching between 3D or more so switching off from 3D like it should.

I would install 306.23 (clean install) and see if that helps. Not good for Far Cry 3 though as 3D isn't supported in that game with those and SLI needs Nvidia inspector to enable SLI.

Using Ctrl-T does not fully switch off 3D... it seems to just bring the two eyes back together, if you will. There is still a lot of processing going on behind the scenes. Do as Greg says and set yourself up two shortcuts to the Enable / Disable 3D Vision (from the nVidia folder in the start menu). I use two macro keys on my keyboard to do it. Turning off 3D Vision before starting the game is the only way to ensure you get maximum performance in 2D mode. Using Ctrl-T only helps if you decide you want to take the glasses off without quitting out of the game and restarting.

Greg: I can't find a definitive answer to this... when you use 3D Vision, how much does your FPS drop over 2D mode? I seem to get quite a bit more than the "halving" expected from displaying two images per 3D frame. For example, say I get 100FPS in 2D, I get perhaps 30 to 35 in 3D (60 to 70 actual images per second).

MilkyJoe: This example seems to fit with your findings as well... you get 80-100 FPS in 2D mode (3D Vision off), but this drops to 40-60 FPS when 3D Vision is enabled but running in 2D output using Ctrl-T. A drop of perhaps 40%. I would guess that when you use Ctrl-T to get 3D, you see only 20-30 FPS?

This is a little bit old now Mole but still relevant.

As you can see, some games are better in 3D than others. I will do some testing with some of the newer games and post my findings (and with a 3930K chip). It could be the CPU playing a big part in some of these games.

Thanks Greg. I do wonder from your results whether some of these games were CPU limited in strict 2D mode. Max Payne 3 seems to be CPU limited for me... and I wouldn't call a 2700k @ 4.6 particularly slow! This is with a pair of GTX 580's (stock) running a 1080p screen, so I would guess that the GTX 680's would be more CPU bound at the same res. Of course, you are running triple my res.

In particular, what is surprising for me is that your framerates don't even halve when moving to 3D mode...

Are you able to try a game or two running on a single screen, and perhaps on only one GTX 680? I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm interested to see what that does...

Will do and will probably do it tomorrow or Sunday (not much time for gaming at the mo).

I will put my CPU at stock and then again at 5GHZ and do the same run with the GPU @ 1202Mhz (stock).

hi, part of my problem was i havent had my 560 ti sli for very long so i was playing mostly far cry 3 in 3d so i was using this mod

http://helixmod.blogspot.co.uk/2012...howComment=1357770444556#c3938047505305413002

to get 3d working, which also meant using nvidia inspector to do the sli fix to stop flashing shadows but the fix only seemed to work half the time, but when it did my fps stayed above 60, but now without it with 3d on, but not in game my fps tanks to 40.

which makes me thing its something driver related, i will try some older driver like gregster said and a game thats optimized for that driver see if that works.
