Hi,
So i have just bought a 6800xt and at the moment my cpu is a ryzen 5 2600, so im now looking to upgrade it,
I know the 5700x will be faster but is it really worth the 80-90 pound extra?
Also are both these cpu's good enough for the 6800xt

The 5700x will be a better bet "IF" used for stuff other than gaming. If purely gaming then 5600x, if doing anything else that can use more cores/threads, then the 5700x would be a better bet imo

God CPUs are a source of anxiety for me. I know full well that there is no point me getting a 12900k and a 5900x will be fine (as will others) yet I find myself drawn to the intel because 'best' (in some cases) depsite the fact AM4 would save me a lot of money.

It wouldn't be at the expense of a better or worse GPU. I just recall playing wow and getting low FPS in raids with my old 2600x and 2060

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply, completely forgot i made the thread
Thanks for the help.
My other dilemma is do i go 5600 or 5700x/5800x. So is the 5700x/5800x worth the extra cost for just gaming? Amd if i go 5600 will iemd up needing to upgrade in a few years anyway?

The 5800x shouldn't be considered as the 5700x is far better value and with those extra 2 cores over the 5600 make it a better long term option.

The 5600 is stonking value to performance so it's just wether you want to add/pay for the extra few cores.

Thats where my issue is, granted its only around £50 difference, but its the extra 2 cores worth it just solely for gaming
Yes they are. Reviews are not very indicative of gaming performance, they just give you a ballpark. There are specific heavy areas in games where the core utilization skyrockets, and thats where 6c start to show signs of struggling. I had an 11600k and some games I was hitting 90+% utilization (cyberpunk for example).

Although I don't usually reccomend it cause the price is absolutely ridiculous, since you already have an am4 motherboard I assume, grab the 3d? Yes in some games it's even slower than the normal 5800x but it's the poor man's 12900k,

Thank you, thats my decision made , hopefully can get a good offer on one

Only reason for the 5800x3d if your gaming at 1080p the 5900x becomes a better value at near simmlar performance 1440p and above.

I have nothing at the moment. Longevity is a focus for me as this will be my first waterloop effort and I really don't want to be upgrading parts (bar gpu) often. So for that reason I am thinking get an upper midrange/top AM5 board and decent CPU from the off and if it lasts as long as AM4 then happy days. I will be gaming at 4k and availability permitting getting top of the range GPU.

now NO, Latter YES

my 3600 @ 4.35Ghz still hits my 144Hz FPS cap in ever game i play, so is the 5700x needed right now NO. but in time to come it will be, it will out live the 5600 BUT that all depends on how often you upgrade how long do you hope the CPU will last.

Not at higher resoloution there maybe couple of fps diffrence but at £340 the 5900x is a winner imo.
The 3d is faster in EVERY resolution. Even at 16k, the 3d IS faster. It's the GPU that's bottlenecking. But if you buy a faster CPU now, you don't have to change it when you inevitably change your GPU. So the 3d will last for more gpu upgrades than the 5900x. It's common sense man.

Back in 2017 the i3 8100 matches the 8700k in 4k gaming performance. If I had bought the 8100 instead of the 8700k how great do you think it would have worked with my 3090? Exactly.
