56K

I used 32.2 k (I think it was that, larger than 28, smaller than 56) until about 2002.

BT had done something to our line so it was split. Meant we couldn't get broadband until we pestered and they finally fixed it.

So annoying!

36.6k! :D I spent all my money buying a top end modem and then 56k came out :(

After reading all the responses, should the "56k beware" waring be changed to a high bandwidth warning ?

My first modem was a 28.8K one back in the mid 90's, aah how spicy it was then to get on the internet - I stayed up talking to a girl in the US all night :p

My cable connection went a bit screwy the other night (no idea why), speedtest were coming in at around 65-70kbps.. we are talking dial-up speeds and browsing these forums (or most sites for that matter) wasn't pretty :(

Shouldn't be a warning at all tbh, I don't see why it matters the stop and back buttons on browsers are there for a reason.

As I think I mentioned in the other thread, there may not be many users on 56k but I'd bet quite a few of us surf using GPRS/3G occasionally which can be a lot worse!

As i'm not a downloader I havent really noticed any difference from being on 512 with NTL in 2000 to 8meg now.

It gets upgraded every year or so with NTL and it makes little difference to me. When I got my first PC broadband was just about out with NTL so I didnt have dial up for long.

With broadband you soon hit a law of diminishing returns by increasing the speed of your line, don't you. I noticed more of a difference in browsing speed getting interleaving turned off on my line than anything else.
