is it more wanting the new thing?
not planning on overhauling my motherbaord. i got the X570 board for longevity5800X would give you a decent amount more of per-core performance, so if you want that go for a 5800X now.
But if you don't really need that, I'd say either:
- Wait for a 5900X, if you're going to keep your current mobo and memory etc for a while
- Wait for Zen 4 and go AM5 at the end of the year
I would not drop a 3900X for a 5800X, keep the 3900X.
Depends on your use case really and how much multicore power you need.I have been thinking about doing the same thing going for the 5800x i wanted the 5900x but can not find any in stock for my new build to replace my 5820k setup but not sure if 5800x would be the right choice

8 cores will be fine for gaming.Be used for a lot of gaming
I was pretty much set on the 5800X but it seems they run +20C hotter than any of other 5000 chips. Up to 90C under load. That's a bit much imho.
The 5900X doesn't apparently have such an issue, and oddly enough neither does the 5950X.
Not sure if the problem is fully solved by under-volting the heck out of them, but it might be.
