Hi guys, how many 5800x owners on here have tweaked their BIOS/Ryzen Master settings to get lower temps on their 5800x CPU's?

I'm currently running the below but am in the middle of a house move so don't have a huge amount of time to tweak so was wondering what settings other are using.

PPT - 105
TDC - 75
EDC - 95

I'm planning on tweaking my GPU (3080FE) as well to lower power usage without reducing performance so hoping a bit of tweaking on both will get me where I want to be.

those are pretty safe settings to yield good thermal results assuming you have decent AIO or equivalent air coolers.
PPT limit kicks in under all core load
TDC and EDC limit kick in under single core load, the more you give the CPU the higher it can boost to a point of diminishing return

I am running those exact numbers myself.

with PBO2 or Curve Optimiser to get single thread boost to 5GHz and beyond.

PPT - 125

EDC - 110
Curve - negative 5 on couple of cores, negative 10 on the rest

^ what I had for my 5800X, same performance as stock, lower temp and power consumption, 75c max /w Scythe Fuma 2 cooler.

CPU is sat under an NZXT Kraken in a Meshy case, airflows fine, but as its sat on my desk now rather than under it as my old mATX build was I want to drop the fans back as far as possible to keep the noise down.
Plan is to throttle back the CPU/GPU while still keeping settings maxed to the point that I'm hitting 140fps constant, I intend to do a bit more tweaking as post-house move allows but I'm off out and about again from the 14th so safe/ballpark figures from a quick Google will do for a while until I get time..

Zen3 is pretty efficient chip. I wouldn’t bother lowering those values anymore

For a 65w CPU the defaults are 90/60/65, you can see what that does. But it most likely won’t boost to 5GHz but probably will be fine as stock boost behaviour or 4.85GHz max. especially if you have PBO2 set.

To get the 5GHz you will need to upper the TDC and EDC. It’s a game of finding the optimum as well as understand what games you play and how it loads the CPU

I'm not aiming for any specific speed, I just want to be able to roll back the CPU and GPU to lower temps while still hitting my FPS target, PC's literally just to the right of my mousemat so want to reduce noise.

You can definitely try the default 65w setting and that should cut the power by quite a bit. But whatever CO values you had set then wil all need to be reworked.

As above, lowering ppt is what made the difference to temps for me and didn’t rest affect the performance enough that I noticed or cared. I was more bothered about reducing fan noise.

This is kinda where I'm at, given PC is on desk I want to keep temps down, but don't mind losing performance to do that as long as it still hits 144FPS with all the bells and whistles on, I only really play Warzone and World of Warships so not exactly AAA+ titles.

Agreed. It's made such a difference for me. Whilst I understand that TDC and EDC are what may limit the single core, I have found that just by dropping the PPT, I don't get the spikes of temp which make the fan go nuts.

I had tried disabling PBO and manually setting the multiplier and locking it to a specific frequency, which worked for other chips to bring temps down during general usage, however I was noticing on my 3950x that windows was keeping the CPU cores lightly loaded a lot of the time with only a few going to sleep ... which gave me idle temps near 50°C.

Changing back to PBO on, but with a low PPT (its set at 88 at the moment), it seems like the cores go to sleep much more regularly, and my idle temp is down near 40°C now, and the cores are sleeping much more readily. For example, when typing this, I can see that only 4 cores are awake, the rest are sleeping.

As for games and things ... my goto quick fix is Fortnite (sry)... whilst I've tried the various RT modes and things, I actually turn it to performance mode which is geared for lower hardware. The system barely breaks breath running 4k 60Hz for my TV, and its nice not hear the fans churning away whilst gaming.

Just dropped in a 5800x myself. came from a 3600, although a great chip I want to Strech out this x570 mobo a bit longer and the 5800x has only cost me £140 after selling my old 3600.i run a Corsair H115i coller set to quiet mode (fixed fans and pump all at lowest settings so its whisper quiet). My old 3600 idled around 44 degrees and went upto 67ish underload. This 5800x immediately hit 90degrees!!. After playing around with curve optimiser yesterday (4 cores at -25 and 4 at -20) and lowering PPT to 120 it now ideles at around 32 to 35 degrees and goes upto 76 to 79 under load. Cinebench results slightly up too from stock, albiet only a few hundred points so I'm happy with that. For what is worth i also ran it in eco mode to see what happended and temps underload dropped to around 67-70 degrees but I only lost about 1000 points on cinebench so i may even go back to this.

I've not had the time to tweak the curve tbh, I wanted a quick solution that would allow me to drop temps/voltages over the CPU and GPU to keep things as quiet as possible without losing performance, long gone are my days of spending days tweaking every single variable to get performance out of a system..

I will chip in. I have not modified the curves. I replaced the be quiet! Pure Rock cooler with Deepcool Assassin iii. It seemed to lower the temps around 15 degrees. I did not like the paste supplied as it seemed to be quite thick. I will try get another paste and see if it can be lowered even further.

just got one of these myself on the cheap, trying to get it setup atm, not really sure what im doing its been so long, I had my 5600x setup so it ran nice and cool with more performance than stock but it took ages, Im more in the quick tweak camp these days lol. I always aim for optimal/efficient better than stock whilst not being maxed out. Will try some of your settings
