5820K to Ryzen?

As with smogsy's thread I'm also very tempted to go from my 5820K to Ryzen as I want a new motherboard and quieter/small system. Is the investment in Ryzen justified or would I be better just buying other components after launch (Used X99 motherboards etc). Currently I haven't seen any issues with my 5820K but I really don't like the lack of fan control on my EVGA Micro 2 so I thought I could justify the upgrade but now I'm not too sure :(

Can any of you rational people help me as I think I may be going nuts :D

It depends on how much you are stressing your current setup.

I would assume you will still get a good amount of money for the CPU & board on second hand which you could offset the cost of the new setup, so it could be a nice upgrade.

It depends how much you can get for your current parts Vs how much the new ones will cost.
By the looks of it, Ryzen should get you quite a lot more performance while using significantly less power. Which should result in a quieter system. Not sure on the motherboard selection regarding smaller though. You might have to wait for itx etc.

not worth it imo but new shiny lol
Don't waste your money. You have a 6 core CPU.Not a CPU from a Vic 20
But the motherboard I want costs around £220 when I might be able to get a full upgrade for around that after selling of parts (unless the market gets cheaper)

I'm not really stressing it at all but I just want a ASUS motherboard so I can use fan-suite as opposed to this one I have now :)

This is my thinking but I need to buy a new cooler & case as well (All cost) :)

I would wait and see.

Ryzen might be worth it, but I would pick up a higher end x99 matx board once you know.

I'd expect that buying second hand and put the money towards an expensive matx case would be the way to go.

I know 100% where you are coming from with that, as that was a bug bear of mind with my Asus X79 Sabertooth. I know, i've been considering it as I was planning on buying a 6900K as i've been killing the 6850K with gaming, streaming and rendering. So i'll be able to get a CPU and MB and still have change left over instead of getting a 6900K

I think you may be right, hopefully prices will fall but the WS MATX board seems to be like gold dust :(

I know, I made a big mistake not getting the ASUS motherboard and now I have major buyers remorse :(

If you want fan control you could buy an aquaero
I could but I prefer fan suite as it just seems to work for me
It's a pointless upgrade...
But I need a decent motherboard :(
Can you play all your games now without being a slideshow?
If the answer is yes, then save your money.
Or give it to me.
Okay, do you accept cheque?
It's a worthy / epic upgrade. :D :p
This just adds to my dilema :D

I'm out...
Pointless thread
Point noted, still you haven't justified your argument other than saying "pointless upgrade". Care to explain how if by buying a new board I'm still within £100 of a full upgrade after selling off my old kit? It seems illogical why I'd stay with an older system if the upgrade was around/less than £100?
