5850 not that fast???

Bottom line is the 8800gt is sill a top tier card at a good price.
Remember a thread on OCUK about people posting up their 8800 videocard related stories, and how great it was/is? I tried to find it, but I could not. Do threads get deleted after a certain period of time on OCUK?

Even at same clocks you have 160 extra SPs and 11% extra TMUs (which would make a bigger difference in an old benchmark).

Don't make me drag up some 5850 06 scores that are not under performing like the OP's, CBA.

8800GT's die on their ASS with any AA/AF turned on.

A 8800gt sli setup is on par if not slightly better than a gtx 285 if you don't hit the vram limit and a 5850 is faster, but not by much, than the 285.

If you want to see a boost then clock your 5850 up to 1000 on the core and you will roughly be on par with a gtx 295/ 260 sli setup. Criminal to run the 5850 at stock ;)

For Rroff....

Factual evidence.

Not sure what your point is  I only said it would be a few % different - which is what the table shows - but I already said that.

My point is the OP's card is underperforming, and your making out my little test is not valid because I have a few more Processing Cores.

Op, have you completely removed the Nvidia drivers?

People should cut out the fanboyism and try to help the poor chap find out if he actually does have a problem.

for the OP, even if you run 3dmark vantage, dont be surprised if the 8800gt's get a higher score, since the 8800gt will offload the cpu physics tests onto the gpu and the final result could end up making you reconsider your "upgrade" to the 5850.

Are they normally run on a CPU core ?

yes they are. you can even disable the physics offloading to the gpu in the 8800gt's drivers. that way he can get more of a 'fair' comparrison. but it depends on how you define fair? since if your hardware supports offloading the physics too the gpu it makes sense to do so. (unless you take too big a hit in performance in doing so but thats game and hardware dependant)

Are we talking FizzX ?

I'm just struggling to see how a move from a pair of 8800gt's to a single 5850 is anything but a huge upgrade.

It would be a pretty decent upgrade in general for 1920x or higher res and plenty of AA, the lack of dependancy on multiGPU is a plus.

At 1680x or lower res with upto 4x AA the 8800GT SLI is still very capable and even at 1920x it still puts up a good fight - I think the thread got a little out of hand due to some ignorance as to just how good they still are blowing it a bit out of proportion.

if that was the case then this thread wouldnt have existed.

So because this thread exists a pair of 8800gt's beats a 5850 ?

Well stop then.

OP, I have used both setups and the 5850 was miles better than the SLI system. I don't use Future Mark as I found its crap for comparing real world performance.

I think you might need to look at your setup and do some tweaking.
