Guys

I have installed two 5870s, when running the Heaven benchmark then checking gpu z it says both gpus are under load, and i do have nearly double the frame rate so all good there.

When playing bad company 2 tough for an hour then checking gpu z the second gpu hasn't really done anything at all.

Things that are strange ( are they? ) gpuz says when clicking the first gpu that crossfire is enabled.

Second gpu it says its disabled

Should i be seeing the second gpu being used in BC2?

Thanks

Your having almost as much luck as me then :(

Recently bought a pair of 6870s, they play together nicely for about 30min and then the system locks up. Disable crossfire and it works fine.

I've been trying to get some sort of stability going in BC2 with them both since the weekend and ive now given up. 1 GPU is plenty, it was looking really good having them alternate frames & V-Sync, nice low load and temps, but it locked and it just isnt worth it. I'll start to worry when BF3 starts doing this.

Oddly, i had almost identical issues last month with a 5770, went to May driver and it was fine. So when fitting the 6870's into a new system i went straight to the same driver, and the problem was there, even on a single card. Im now on March and have stability with 1, but not both.

Try MSI Afterburner with the on-screen display, it'll give you the temps and load for each card. I run 2 monitors so the 2nd has all these apps running so i can keep an eye on them. Doesnt solve much, but lets you follow their activity better and rule out overheating and whatnot.

Yes mate I'm having loads of hassle, almost too much to be dealing with really.

Ive tried both cards with my normal overclocked CPU and both perform fine with no problems.

Put them together in crossfire and i get flickering textures, stuttering, crashes and freezing, its not heat, Ive even opened my case right up and has fans blowing on them, they are not even over 60 degrees.

I think its driver issues and i cant be bothered to go through loads of drivers for each game i play.

Ill put it down to bad experience, but wont go crossfire again.

i have 2 non oc'ed 5870's and used to have the same probs as you with bbc2.

didn't really do anything but a driver update seemed to cure it.

i'm currently using 10.6's.

when i changed to this driver i now get a red crossfire logo in the top right corner when gaming. since this i don't get any issues with this game.

really think it's down to driver and the way it installs 'properly'.

Cheers mate, i didnt see any crossfire logo in the corner at all using latest drivers, will try the 10.6s in the morning as im off work :)

Thanks will try the ULPS thing

Guys ive noticed my PSU is 650w (corsair TX) could this be the problem and be underpowered? Anyone running crossfire from a 650w psu?

Another thing is that both cards are different brands, one is a XFX the other a Saphire is this ok?

Again, thanks :)

ULPS thing makes no difference, ive installed about 5 different drivers. Whats strange is in CCC sometimes i can adjust the fan speed of each card and everything seems normal, then 10 mins later i can only adjust one of them.

Also im only getting 1 gpu working on Bad company 2, the other one does nothing at all.

Very dissapointed in the crossfire experience, and after doing some reasearch online it seems it really isnt worth the hassle.

If it helps I've just started running 2x 5870 crossfired. System specs in sig. Running off a Corsair 620W and haven't encountered any issues yet. Only played BFBC2 for about 30 mins though but during that time both cards have been about 80-90% load.

I did make sure to get almost identical cards as well. Had a Sapphire Vapor-X and got a Vapor-X OC and then BIOS flashed the non-OC to the same OC BIOS. No idea if it was necessary but I thought it couldn't hurt. Might be worth you flashing one of them to be identical to the other. Please check whether thats possible though as I don't want to get the blame for you bricking one of them :)

Hi m8

When you go into GPU-Z what does the 2nd gpu say? On the first card in mine it says crossfire enabled, on the 2nd card it says disabled

Thanks for the advice will look into the flahing thing although im not too confident about that lol

Both of mine say enabled. Heres a screenshot of GPUZ while playing BFBC2 with AA, AF maxxed at 1920x1200 :

Thanks for that mate

For some reason GPU-z isn't showing the second card as working ( no load ), but i downloaded MSI afterburner and that shows loads on both cards ( top card is quite hot though, 81!)

So i think the crossfire is working :), although I'm not sure why GPU-Z doesn't show this

Again thank you for the input its much appreciated :)
