5870 Downgrading to?

How would you have had more money if he had sent you the card first?

Because the 4870x2 is EOL. And the retailer sauced some 4870x2's.
He didn't send me the card till paypal refunded him, if he'd sent it before, I'd have been credited for 350 pound, I had to sell the brand new card for 165 since demand is so low for it.

I think you should keep the 5870... with the current 5850 prices it's not worth it.

Also off topic... In the members market (once I get there :p) are there users that sell oversees in europe? Or people only sell in the uk?

Thanks

.... most sellers are UK based and post mainly UK mainland / Islands but Ive seen a few people asking about postage to other European countries and some do at extra cost (covering postage) ... once you are in (MM) you will see :)

You see, I'm moving in a couple of months and planning to leave that PSU behind as I have a better one waiting on the other end. Yeh, i will lose a bit downgrading but I also get a chunk of money back which I could do with for xmas!

I can in a few more posts :). But i doubt the 4870x2 will run in my system right now with 450w.

if the deal is good u could upgrade ur PSU and have his 4870x2 at the same time , allowing for future upgrades

I also cant wait till i can get MM

To add to what others have said. Your losing money (sort of), technically you'll get some back in your pocket but it's not a wise move.

Ignoring the price fluctuations the difference in price between a new 5850 and a new 5870 is about ~£100. Of that £100 pounds your only going to see ~£50 back. I see that more as throwing £50 away than £50 in your pocket.

Keep the 5870. :)

2 options;

1. sell on ebay, you will make a bit more in this market...get a 4000 series.

2. keep it, graphics will adapt to this new card, and given the cost of developing games that will use it fully, I suspect that games will stagnate somewhat in terms of prettiness, and cards will begin to focus on quiet, cool and lower power rather than outright speed. The 5870 will dominate a 24 inch monitor for a while now methinks.

My suspicion is the release Fermi cards will simply aim to best the 5870, not introduce whole loads more power, but make cooler, quieter and more power econimic cards with nvidia's effects and an edge on performance.
