at these times i hate having an nvidia 680i motherboard, cant get my Q6600 even near 3.0ghzwhen running a 5870 with a stock q6600 how limited would it really be? a significant amount?
Change the motherboard for a P43 or P45 board so you can get a decent clock on the quad and grab a 5870... you need atleast 3gig, 3.6+ better to get your moneys worth out the GPU.
You'll be unlikely to get a good clock out the 965 board its just not designed to supply the amperage.
Yup, I think the only game where I'd see any real improvement is in Crysis/Warhead and that's only because 5fps can make a noticeable difference in that game. Otherwise my Q6600 does me fine and dandy for gaming atm.Well the 5870 is working great alongside mine! You're not going to win any benchmarks but gaming wise there's no hold up.

If you can clock the Q6600, i5 would be a bit of a rubbish upgrade.
Heck, I can't even warrant an i7 upgrade, need something with substantial gains before I move from my trusty Q6600, what's even better about it is the fact it only cost £115 brand new and I've had it since June 2008; value for money or what!![]()
I only have PC6400 RAM, I suppose that could be an issue too?
800MHz RAM shouldn't be a problem at all.
I have a P5Q Pro I was thinking of changing, but I haven't decided yet. Should I choose to ditch it, you'll be the first to know.
