So, when I think about how much it's cost me to finally upgrade my Xeon E1680V2 (4600mhz all core) (motherboard finally went, well CPU power socket did!) after 13 years of service... £320 for the 5950x, £139 for the Mobo and £256 for the 128gb ram... wonder if I'll get 13 years of service out of this rig... doubt it lol infact I know I won't... the quality of the motherboards now compared to years ago, they seem a lot lighter somehow, just don't seem as solid? Who knows.
X79 V2 was quite a future thinking platform and/or over-specced, which helped massively with longevity, they just don't make em like that any more even just the little things like reinforced CPU socket with built in backplate.
