A 5D + 24-105mm f4 L IS USM kit should be on its way as soon as my bank transfer clears for just £1530 :)

Also ordered two Sandisk Extreme III 4GB CF cards from OCuk. Can't believe CF prices have dropped so much since the last time I bought a card.

Edit: Oh and Hoya Pro1 filters (NDx8 and circular polariser) for the 24-105mm...£126 for a polariser, ouch!

Considering I bought a Canon HV20 high-definition camcorder just a couple of weeks ago, I better stop for a while or I'll be single soon lol :)

nice choice well done.

personally i like the 24-105 as walkabout lens

price does appear steep for filters or do you mean all together ? just curious

The Hoya Pro1 77mm filter costs around £120 RRP.
It's very slim - only 5 mm high to reduce vignetting on wider lenses and has all of the special glass coatings to reduce glare, flare etc

the 5D is an absolutly awesome camera, my dad has one and it produces some of the sharpest images i've seen, as sharp and as nice as 1ds MKII, but with a few less pixels.
You will not be dissapoined with the results :)

£126 was just the CP. The ND was around £60.

And all this is ex.VAT because I am buying from the UK but shipping to Gibraltar which is outside the VAT Zone. Usually that means we pay most of that in import duty later, but in the case of photographic equipment it happens to be exempt from import duty :)

The main reason I got the filters from where I got them is since I was already buying the camera and lens, it went under the same delivery charge, whereas ordering elsewhere, any saving would probably be neutralised by the additional delivery charge. Living in Gibraltar theres always a significant delivery charge.

I bought Pro 1's Pol and UV, for my 24-105, from auction site, seem to remember about 40 quid, also bought for my 24-85, 80-200 Contax. Again all similar prices, all new, slim line specials types etc etc.

Congratulations mate. I'm buying the 5D mark II when it is released.

Cracking camera the 5D :)

Seems like later this year now. People were hoping yesterday/today at PMA'08 but it was 'just' the 450D and some very expensive primes. Oh and a couple of printers.

PMA is end of the month. The Canon 450D is pre PMA. Also the primes were mentioned months ago. Only prices and release dates were said today.

I still believe their is a new Canon end of this month. In respect to the company, they need one.

Or maybe im wrong? If there is no update to the 5D then I don't know what the company is playing at. Since the **** up with the Mark III they need to breach out to their professional /semi professional market with something.. No point releasing entry level and P&S's.

I have to admit I'm really eying up Nikon at the moment. as a Photographer I don't hate the other manufacturer , I respect them. Canon are slipping up lately and given my 30D needs to visit the doctor I am starting to reconsider if this new 5D don't come out.

I went through a similar thought process and honestly I find nothing wrong with the 5D especially now that you can grab one for £1.3k.

I could be totally wrong, but the reason they haven't replaced the 5D could be because whatever Nikon is threatening its not the 5D, since its still the cheapest FF body. Yes, Nikon has released a FF body, but it costs much more, and the D300 is not full frame. (Although its brilliant in many other ways of course).
