5D here I come

I just refuse to spend over 1k for something that will soon be superseeded. As good as it is I know.

But that is the case all the time...18 months for me is soon, and people who bought the 30D then saw the 40D be released with all the extra features including live view. Its just the world of digital equipment.

To avoid going crazy and/or bankrupt I try to invert the thinking and have my photography tell me what I need. I definitely dont need live view. My sensor is clean even though it doesnt clean itself, and so on.

My photography is now demanding a larger image with minimum noise even and that will withstand inspection on a screen at 100%, so I am getting a 5D, but if it wasnt for that I'd keep using the 10D till it breaks, because its always withstood inspection on print, even large.

yes but for me.
30D to current 5D isn't enough. I want the new features seen in the latest cameras. Full frame is great but my only lens I can use on it is 17mm. I have a 10 - 22 to mimic that on 1.6x factor. More megapixels yes and better build. I just want to wait.
Ideally I want a 1D but I just can see the mark III getting phased out this year.

If I had a 30D and it was producing the size and quality I needed I wouldnt even be thinking of spending money on another body. Its usually better spent on glass, and miscellaneous like a sturdy tripod. And on trips to take photos in :)

Watching the news about the latest and greatest can get one too concerned with the gear and forget about the whole point of it, the images, and the fun of taking them.

PS: Now that I am getting the 5D I am glad I kept to my decision not to get cropped glass that would be no good on full frame. Somehow I knew I'd end up here. Even before the 5D existed. (Except the kit lens that came with the 300D, but I didnt know better then)

I agree with everything your saying mate but getting concerned about gear or not doesn't hide the fact my camera is broke and needs replacing, lol.

I got into photographing using a series of 35mm film slrs so I want a full frame camera as its anoying using a viewfinder so tiny and a crop factor that isn't true to the format I am born into.

the 10 - 22 is my only EFs lens. Other than that its a range of L standard zooms and primes. I am very serious when it comes to this industry.

Woops didnt get the bit from the previous posts, my bad :)

I can see your position now, its mostly a choice between the features on the 40D and the sensor on the 5D, and a 5D replacement with those features would have had both things. Plus not much scope for postponing the choice or waiting for a 5D replacement because your current body is broken.

Ouch.

Assuming that Canon will release a 5D replacement later this year if they dont now, it might make sense with that in view to wait till PMA is over, if no new 5D, get a 40D (newer model so likely to lose less of its value in the near future) and then sell it with the EF-S lens and pay the difference for the 5D replacement.

I probably would get a 40D They are built like the current 5D after handling one. A true upgrade to the XX series. My move from the 20D to 30D was nice but nothing to justify an upgrade.

I have heard of an entirely new line up coming from Canon this year. A new product in every range I believe.
