I have only just come back on holiday from HK where they have super fast broadband for a mega whopping $100 a month which equates to around £7.50 a month
That is what I pay for 8down, and either 1.5 or 2 up, Adsl, in fact several pence less . This tax^2 can go to hell.
You make your choice where you live, so you live with it. If I choose to go and live in the sahara, do you think I have a right to complain about lack of running water?
I don't mind paying taxes, they go towards making things better for those who are less fortunate than myself. also when I finally make a shed load of money and want to live in the country I will want decent broadband.
Then you can afford sattelite, they offer decent rates. I only help those who help themselves, not leech from others. Tax on a tax is not on.
Britain is a small island. We aren't talking about people living in remote areas complaining they can't get decent broadband, we're talking about millions of people who live in major urban areas, or near to urban areas who only get mediocre speeds or line quality.
Then complain to your isp, get enough people in the area, and pay for the upgrade. Why should I pay for you? Give me one good reason, why I should for something you can live without. Gaming is not a right. It is something you do for fun.
One example:
* Sky Broadband is only available with a Sky TV package (from £16.50 per month)
everyone would like a fast connection but only people on lower than 512k need one...
legal torrents (yer right)
on demand TV (nice but not necessary, why not download them and watch them off line)
Porn, pirated films / music / applications, watching a tv program now and not in 3 hour all good but not worth investing billions on...
are people seriously saying we should spend untold millions so they can pirate software, while browing the internet and playing Wow???
You are exactly right those that need highspeed broadband need it for illegal downloading.
Indeed. The goverment makes most profit from online sales of goods not through ondemand TV. Nor will that ever be anything expect a very niche market. You are exactly right those that need highspeed broadband need it for illegal downloading.
one example of what?
You do realise that isn't satellite broadband, right?
Ok I just went through sky website, and got their basic package:
£30 one off cost
£23.50 monthly.
Games on Steam, and MSDNAA software, frequently run into multiple gigabytes. Those are just two examples.
you can still download gigabytes over a 256k connection... you can also get the software on CD / DVD...
I'm dont want the government spending million so someone can download a game in 10mins instead of 5 hours...
