6 months into V8 Vantage ownership

Have you tried driving one? I drove a 997 C2S before test driving the V8V and was pleasantly surprised after some of the comments I had heard about it, although you can feel the additional weight there. I wonder if a Sports Pack version with the upgraded Bilstein dampers and ARB would be a worthy comparison.

Must have missed this.
Yes I've driven these on both road and track. I drove the 380BHP version both times and have to say both felt more like 330ish horsepower, no doubt due to weight. So the performance I felt was a little underwhelming, maybe my expectations were to high, it was by no means slow.

Handling wise I preferred it too new shape M3 I drove, I just found that felt heavy, but the M3 was stonking quick! The Aston was a nice all round balanced car which handled UK roads well. Compared to the 911 well I driven that on road and track. On the road it's better than the Aston it's just a far lighter and more chuckable car, but the Aston does drive very well on the road. The big difference is on track, the 911 just wants more and more, plus it's hugely quick and brakes are mind stopping powerful. Whereas the Aston on track just felt heavy and clumsy in comparison and I feel an Aston is less suited for track work whereas 911's take it in their stride.

For me where the Aston is untouchable is it's looks and noise, a truly beautiful and epic sounding car.

I still fancy owning one at some point but it would have to be the newer 4.7 version as that's more of a match for the 911's performance. :)

Is the clutch issue covered under a warranty?

I decided against renewing the warranty, although I'm not sure whether it would have been covered? It wasn't the release bearing but one of the springs from the friction plate had snapped and was rattling around in the clutch assembly. It was close to needing a new clutch anyway. £1,500 of parts and 12 hours of labour later I have the car back. :o

Don't worry about bringing your car aMb - mrk isn't that kind of photographer..

Haha :D

i swear i know where that photo is taken, is that on the a272 or a32?

Photos were taken close to Fleet. I have driven the A32 though nice bit of road!

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you?

Fancy a shoot? :D

I'm off J4 of the M3, so not near the south coast unfortunately! I did however get a 5D last month but no idea how to get the best out of it yet :o

thats actually pretty damn reasonable for the clutch change

how many miles did it last?

40,000 miles  Although from what I have read that is fairly good going. It does seem to be made of cheese and the high gearing in reverse causes wear. Some have lasted half that. And even less on the Sportshift.

The V8V is certainly a great looking and sounding car, and at current prices are an absolute steal.

I know someone who is looking to switch to a V8V from an M3 (though E46); will send him this link.

Bit of a bump - have I seen this car up for sale recently?

How has ownership been over the last 3 years?

THREE YEARS and you're STILL talking about buying one! Get it done already!

Well spotted. It is up for sale as I've moved to London, and for the moment at least I don't think I'll be needing a car. Ownership has been enjoyable and it has really been a car that I never got tired of. Until now I hadn't kept a car for three years without getting the urge to swap for something else. Although, towards the end I was looking at something with more power. Apart from consumables and the annual servicing, it's really been very reliable and glad I didn't take out the extended warranty at the outset.

My brother recently bought one of these and loves it. He kept his M3 as a daily and says the BMW is far easier to drive and probably quicker. But the AM is such an event to go out in.

He's itching for the V12 now though.
