~£600 Build

In fact, it's just come to mind that I could give him my Cooler Master SilentPro 850W 80+ Bronze PSU for dirt cheap as I've got a CM V1000 80+ Gold PSU (and yes, I am running my rig off of the 80+ Bronze lol - no coil whine as of yet though!) so perhaps you could have a gander at some builds which don't include a PSU? If you wouldn't mind  please and thank you!

Bgrade card.

Cheers again Stu, great specs as per norm!

Couple random questions.... GTX 760 or 750Ti; which is better?

Also, I've told him I'm happy to put it together (as previously mentioned) but if he wanted it built does anybody know approximately how much OC would do it for, or is that something priced on an individual basis?

Update: He's seen mine.... and wants it lol

He said he'd like to focus on something that can play Skyrim (without mods, just straight from steam) on Maxxed settings smooth enough. Also with the ability to be easily upgradable in the future - I was thinking i5, the MSI 290X Lightning.

He also asked about the monitor thing - will it really matter if he plays on his TV (for the time being at least)?

Would that card be ok on the 850W PSU I'd give him?

And could probably do with some other game recommendations (for justification of a more expensive rig) - typically focussing on co-op games (we've already nailed down Garry's Mod and L4D series) and I imagine games like Amnesia, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the likes..

Cheers

The PSU will be ample for the 290X :)

Would he play games like BF3/4, Arma 2/3 etc? CS:GO is also a good one. DayZ Epoch is an especially "co-op" game :)

Yes it is.

It will play any game.

As for the TV.. He will just have to use it.

Bump:

What about this spec?

  • MSI GTX 970 / MSI 290x Lightning
  • i5-4690k
  • Asus Maximus VII Ranger
  • Seagate Barracuda 3TB
  • 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast (2x 4GB)
  • Windows 8.1 64-Bit
  • BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro3
  • TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless Card
  • Asus 24x Optical Drive
  • CM Storm Devastator Gaming Bundle (Mouse + KB)
  • Cooler Master Storm Enforcer / Cooler Master CM-690 III

Unsure on which case. Comes to ~£1050 without shipping (depending on case & card).

I'd take a gigabyte motherboard, they have better warranty + support but the Asus one's are good too :) Just poor support from Asus
290X lightning is a beast card, probably go for that as it's faster?

Also, no SSD?

Yeah he's trying to squeeze the budget for now. Just wants something that'll run Skyrim max but easily upgradable in the near future - of which I'd make sure he got an SSD lol, unless he can squeeze one in now.

+ cheaper on the card too I guess.

Any idea if the cashback offer is still running on the Gigabyte mobo's? If so it'll probably work out the same price as the VII Ranger on a Black UD3H, if not cheaper! *crosses fingers*

Awesome, cheers Shivy :)

He did ask for cheapest possible build that could run Skyrim max, but I see no point in going AMD as he's put forward the point he wants to upgrade in the near future and Intel has more potential (and saves him buying a new mobo, CPU, and cooler which just puts the cost into a ridiculous range to be honest, once totalled).

Don't know if you could come up with a decent spec yourself?

Also, random question - I've seen people, like yourself, with things for sale in their Sig yet when I click on the link it won't let me onto the forum page? Presumably you'd need an admin's permission to get into the "thread(s)" containing things for sale?

Thanks Stu. Don't want to cause spam so just asking if there's anywhere which explains in better detail the 'trust' thing? If not, I'm sure I'll learn more about it by the time I get to 1k posts :)

Hm, okay, will the skyrim be modded (I assume so as everyone seems to mod it?)
Apparently it can be very taxing when modded so a good CPU and GPU is a good idea

I mean you could look at something like this

That has a 256GB SSD for a start (the SK Hynix is out of stock), nice mobo (£22.50 cashback before 27th) and other gimmicks

The 290X LE takes 2x8-pin and 1x6-pin hence the 750W PSU

The budget is about £1k now from your recent post?

Its just the button in your post, click on it, login and the MM will appear when you meet the criteria.

Odd that shivy011 is suggesting the MSI lightening, just a few days ago he was convinced the GTX970 was a better choice:D

I'd take the 970 as it is newer technology, will run cooler + quieter and more :)

Where does the DVD drive go?;) HO HO HO:D

Yeah he can afford more, but he just wants to start with lesser and upgrade as and when he sees necessary basically.

Also, can save money on the PSU bringing that build to under £1k as I'm giving him my 850W Cooler Master SilentPro 80+ Bronze (a few years old but it's powering my PC fine at the moment - no coil whine on my G1 970 either when under stress so happy days. I've got a brand new V1000 lounging around so that'll go in my rig when he gets his! :)) Could also swap out that USB adapter for the Wireless Card I put in (I've got it, works like a charm :p) <--- edit: although I've just noticed it's not in stock, but everything else is!
