Odd that shivy011 is suggesting the MSI lightening, just a few days ago he was convinced the GTX970 was a better choice:D

Where does the DVD drive go?;) HO HO HO:D

:D I've got to make 1 mistake at least - the case is just a placeholder for whatever the OP wants (roughly £50)

Yeah he can afford more, but he just wants to start with lesser and upgrade as and when he sees necessary basically.

Also, can save money on the PSU bringing that build to under £1k as I'm giving him my 850W Cooler Master SilentPro 80+ Bronze (a few years old but it's powering my PC fine at the moment - no coil whine on my G1 970 either when under stress so happy days. I've got a brand new V1000 lounging around so that'll go in my rig when he gets his! :)) Could also swap out that USB adapter for the Wireless Card I put in (I've got it, works like a charm :p)

Does the PSU have 2x 8pin and 1x6-pin power connectors? It should do, but just double check :)
Also do change the case as stulid pointed out it has no 5.25" bays or get an external USB DVD drive as optical drives aren't used all that much anymore? Unless he has a specific need for one
The wireless card I suppose is your choice, dongle is probably easier should you need to put it into another PC quickly, and might be easier to set up? Not sure about this however

PSU: I'll check tonight once home from work (just been doing HNC coursework, that's how busy my work is atm...)

Case: Back to my 2 options then?

He did say to not worry about an optical drive if possible, but I don't know how to get the OS onto stick to then get onto clean PC (see Sig for evidence [PC Noob]). Similar to me knowing how to (or not knowing rather) flash a BIOS, I don't want to do that and end up buggering his install...

Check out the BitFenix Ronin, great case also with a large window

Flashing BIOS is easy on Gigabyte, whack the file onto a FAT32 formatted USB stick, open up Qflash through the BIOS and flash, job done

Would any bays have to be removed to fit the card? (couldn't see a spec for max GPU length).

Does look awesome though, especially at a very competitive price!

The CM690 III is a newer design case.

Probably, the ronin is 300mm with cage fitted, the CM690 III claims 423mm (but that has to be with a cage removed).

Looking on this review, with the bay cages it's 310mm, so the GPU should fit as it's 302mm

Agreed with by anandtech review - http://www.anandtech.com/show/7158/bitfenix-ronin-case-review

There's loads of good options for cases at this price though so check 'em out

Wrong.

Q: What is the maximum clearance for VGA cards on Ronin
Maximum 300mm with hard drive cage installed.

I use to work for them remember and am sure this discussion between me and others came up before and thats why the FAQ for the case have been completed;)

Cheers for all your help guys, much appreciated.

Sorry for being full of questions, but, if he ordered a rig on Christmas Eve (looks to be the day set), would that have any implications on the cashback for the mobo? i.e. Does it need to be 'with you' before the 27th, or just ordered and paid for before then?

edit: corrrr that cpu cooler is a tight fit on the Ronin - 3mm clearance!

Haha that's funny, it's almost as if there's a review built with you in mind

Raijintek Themis + bitfenix ronin! It does warn to put the CPU Cooler on before you put the mobo in the case though! (It's much easier to do this all the time but anyhow)

ooooo just realised something... will the MSI card go back up to £260 on Weds?

Would this system cope fine without being overclocked on CPU heavy games like DayZ too?

And (sorry for yet another one) is Skyrim more demanding than Elder Scrolls Online (without mods, he's also asked how the system would cope with mods, but I said all depends on what mods get put on so kind of an unanswerable question?)

Yes it will as that is the end of the weekly deal.

Dayz is in a poor state, Skyrim I played on a damn APU once so I expect the 290X+4690K to max it out.

Yeah I know, I'm somewhat disappointed by it so far myself... Considering how many 'copies' they've sold of the standalone game they really should've developed it more by now IMO.

I think I'll let him pick out of the cases as they're all there or thereabouts!

Cheers again stu and Shivy :D

Agree with stulid about DayZ, it's probably the worse £20 I have spent on a game so far :D

Do yourself/your mate a favour, get the Arma 2 mod/Arma 3 and play Epoch, it's more fun, more to do etc :) Still runs pretty badly but it's similar in FPS to the standalone but much more to do

Would the cashback on the mobo above be £22.50? Just looking on the TTCB link provided by stu, just want to make sure that that's the right one I'm looking at!

EDIT: Sweet! Just noticed I get £45 cashback for mine! :D

Last but not least! Could you link me to the google chrome browser basket thing - every time I've been linked I've not been on my home PC and can't remember any of the threads it's on :(

I need to ask CS about the wireless card now...!
