£600 gaming PC?

After thinking for while, i have these questions...

1) If i went with the AMD set up, took off monitor and upgraded GPU to ati 6950 or Gtx 560 would this be a good idea?

When you say take off the monitor, do you mean keep using your 17"?, because if you do, a 6950 or 560 would be completely wasted on it. Maybe for a future upgrade to a new monitor it would be ok.

Yup im planning on getting a new monitor month or 2 after i buy everything else,

So having Amd phenom x4 955 and higher end gpu card (around £200-220) would be ok ?

i read somewhere Going for the AMd 955 black edition and then OCing it myself i could get it to 3.4ghz relatively easily, so i like that :P so i dont really want to spend more on the cpu, i'd rather spend on the gpu i think.

XFX ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [HD-695A-CNFC] £221.99 looks best but i might just be liking it cause of the 2048mb number :P

I think i've decided on like majority of components just the GPU bit is gettin be bit confused.

cards such as the GTX 460, 5850 and 6850 etc are not shabby at all! they will handle most games maxed out.
I, personally, would only consider a 6950 if i was gaming at higher than 1080, but if you are upgrading your monitor then i don't know if you are going to get a higher resolution monitor.

I suppose the 6950 will give you much more future-proofing though, as it should play games on max for a good few years, if you can afford it. then, if you do some upgrades in a year or 2, you won't have to worry about the graphics card.:)

I think i've settled on redmint's i5 build , seems a good balance between cpu and gpu.

Upped the cpu cooler to the hyper 212, gonna grab 7 quid sycthe fan aswell for exhaust.

Coming in just shy of £650 atm.

hopefully b3 revisions for the more basic motherboards will be out soon...........

might be bit paranoid but are the b3 revision boards seeming to be bit more expensive than the current ones???

Will be my first build..... but already got friends & family wanting me to build them PC's *hides* : P

final list, will wait to 10th when more of the b3 revision p67 become available, ending going 100 quid over budget :P
