So i got my new build yesterday, finally got sround to building it today but have come across a minor but really annoying problem.

Its the 600T white edition, but if i plug my 4 pin front fan plug into the 4 pin chassis fan port on the mobo, the system refuses to boot. If I leave it unplugged it boots fine, but obviously theses no air intake to my i7 or 570 which is gonna lead to all sorts of problems.

Oh and the mobo is the asrock extreme 4.

Thanks

Does the fan have a 4 pin molex connector?

The molex connector on the motherboard is an input to provide extra power for multiple graphics cards, not an output.

I imagine if you plug something in trying to draw power then it really buggers things up.

If it's a molex connector you need to connect the fan to a molex plug from the power supply.

Molex:

Sorry just noticed i haven't specified that the fan has a plug for 4 pins to go into it and also a 4 pin molex which is plugged into a psu connector. The problem comes when plugging the chassis plug into the motherboard, not the molex to the psu.

You don't need to plug it into the MB, its optional I think, plus I swear the 600T has a Fan controller?

Spot on.

OP, you should plug the molex power connector from the fan controller into a power cable from the PSU and then the fans into the 3 pin connectors from the fan controller.

Yes and as a side-note it can be quite difficuilt to identify which bits plug in...

Check each lead for a removable cover, some not all have these, after that you will be able to work out what goes where :).

The boys above have sorted you out. I never liked Asrock... not that I blame that mobo but... thought I'd mention it. Used to be a cheapo OEM manufacturer... still are I think, not sure!

Anyway... Absolutely love that case you chose... any chance you can post some pics of it once fully built.

Sacrilege!

ASRock produce some of the best value boards now especially for Sandy Bridge.

The forum is full of people singing their praises.

That's a matter of opinion. I was just sharing mine. Never had good experiences with their cheaper products years ago. I always associated them with cheap OEM Packard Bell Windows XP machines.

Obviously the company has changed a little. However, a bad image is hard to shift for those of us who have experienced their ways last decade.

Most £100+ 1155 boards are excellent. It's hard not to sing their praises unless it's actually faulty.

There now rebranded Asus boards... so that might explain their sudden release of good products since 2008.

I apologise for my late reply, but would just like to say thanks to everyone for their help. Turns out I was just been stupid and didnt realise, as pointed out, that there were protective caps on the fan controller pins that needed to be removed. All sorted now, though.

Got some minor tidying up to do, but I will most definitely post some photos later on today :)

Thanks all!

Oh, and I went with AsRock purely based on the amount of recommendations from this site. I want to get one of Asus Maximus boards eventually but for now it will do the job I require it to :)
