6700k vs 5820k

Yeah, definitely wait till the madness begins...and only reason to go liquid cooling without over-clocking would be noise limitation.

<---- Very jealous of your new build. Something very similar planned for January.

Not necessarily - a Noctua air heatsink/fan will be far quiter than the average AIO water cooler.

I bought a Corsair H110I GT for my 6700k, I had it in my case for the grand total of an hour before I returned it for a full refund - the pump was quite audible even at complete idle (lowest pump speed), a far more annoying noise than a noctua fan would produce.

Ended up with a Noctua NH-U12S, which is inaudible at idle/low load.

That's interesting, I've always just kind of worked off the rule of thumb that liquid solutions were generally the quieter option - but I never actually gave it a genuine rigorous check. Mostly because noise has never really been an issue for me coming from 386's way back when. But I have based a few recommendations on that so might have to recheck myself going by what you say.

I've had my Corsair H50 and a H80 in both my i7 920 and i7 930 systems and they have always been super quiet ... never a sound from them ... that was why I was thinking of water cooling because they have stood the test of time without a fault ...

Noise depends on different factors like where you place your case, if i place my case on my desk then noise is an issue straight away, on the floor under the desk the noise is greatly reduced, also headphones drown out the noise from elsewhere. I once had two gtx 780's with reference coolers and they sounded like mini hoovers at full load. Some people though are less sensitive the noise in general.

Yeh indeed, completely depends on how susceptible you are to noise and where you place your PC.

I have my case on top of a large desk, no point having a window and a LED light rig if I'd just bury it under my desk to collect dust.
