680 SLI Power Draw

I pulled the plug on the XFX 1050. This will keep me going safely :) Cheers guys. (I couldn't justify the extra premium either)....Roll on pay day (poor credit card) :)

Cool :)

Out of interest what was your power draw on your 24/7 clocks?

Around 400 at idle (all at stock except CPU at 4.6 @ 1.32V) and gaming like that was around 650. Going from memory though so give or take a fraction. I will check when home from work. Antec said it was fine but I want to be safe as I will be hopefully clocking the GPUs higher.

I've got the AX1200i Greg, really tidy PSU. Comes with its own powermeter thingy...and its really rather accurate.

Just done some Heaven runs using max overclocks with added voltage.
3770k @4.9Ghz 1.41v
7970x2@1230/1615 1380mv (needs 1310 normally)
D5 @5flow All fans @Max RPM
2HDDs 1SSD

Peak 840w, between 750-780w give or take (thats from a wall readout)

Edit:
Cba to do stock, so this is everyday clocks.

[email protected] 1.35v
7970x2@1125/1575 1175mv (Sometimes play games with 1200/1600 1278mv - most the time not)
D5 @2flow All fans 600-900RPM
2HDDs 1SSD

Peak 600w, between 550-570 give or take (from a wall readout)

I did fancy that PSU but I just couldn't justify the money to be honest and my funds are pretty limited with my recent spending sprees.

To be fair the GTX670/GTX680 cards are pimped up mid-range. The much lower power consumption of these card is mostly because of the sacrifice made on gpgpu capability (not that us gamers need it...in fact I welcome it as it reduce power consumption and heat).

As great as the 7950 is at the current price point, I would rather if they could offer the same gaming performance, but rid of the gpgpu performance so that the card would be lower power-consumption and run at lower temp (fingers-crossed for HD88xx cards)...in fact, it would be good if AMD and Nvidia can add a feature for users to have the option to disable the gpgpu feature.

The Interesting point here that people have found is just how much extra power GFX cards pull when you wind them up.

It's truly a miracle with the amount of current going though these microscopic IC's they even last day !

.

That's only true if you don't crank up the cards, believe it or not the 680's will pull loads of power when they are overclocked...just look at the power regulation stage vs Fermi, it's pretty much the same !

What is improved is the Performance/ Power ratio, personally I always thought a Fermi die shrink would be just as good as these new cards, It's only the high clocks that allow them to pull away.
