6800k or 7700k

well it will mainly come down to what you doing.

some recent games have made ways into using extra cores.bf1 shows this.i played another recent title in testing which does also.

its all budget at end of the day.

zen could be great for budget.going by the blender results of 100 runs a 5820k and 6800 is still quicker.if that is there chosen benchmark it will kinda show that the ones that dont favour them will be even slower.games for eg.

100 runs? no, 150 runs

Official word from AMD themselves, version 2.78a X64

I would check the stats again at the correct 150 samples and see where that brings the results.

I do like the look of zen from what I've seen.

But gaming is probably my biggest use so any cpu i buy has to do this well as a priority.

I await proper gaming benches with interest.

But I'd ideally want a cpu with more than 4 cores with the future in mind.

If that is true then I'll be sticking with my 5820k a while longer, prob til Coffee/Ice Lake.

Re-read my post above, DG is stating incorrect data as fact... the test was run with 150 samples, not 100, which makes Intel chips a lot slower in the results.

The ironic thing is, AMD picked Blender because traditionally their chips perform very bad in it, so they picked a test to show their new architecture has turned this around, infact to such a degree they can now beat the competition at it.

a lot of people dont believe the results, thats normal because of all the failures AMD have made in the past. I believe the tide has turned, i think a lot of people are going to be suprised, and probably a fair few that have weighed out circa £1k on cpu's, upset, and rightly so.

Intel have been rinsing people for years due to AMD's inability to compete, and why should they not? if you dominate the market your going to charge for your products, because you can.

That tides about to turn, i believe AMD are back, call it hype, call me a fanboy whatever, facts are facts, Handbrake and Blender and that other 3D Modelling thing, showed that AMD's new RyZen, when pushed has the power to perform, this will translate to gaming as well.

If it does not then you can all come back and laugh at me :)

Well it certainly looks to be a competitive product from amd this time around.

It's about time amd made some sort of comeback as their last few rounds of cpus have been way off the mark.

I have been sick of seeing intel hold back on desktop cpu development due to lack of competition and charging the earth for their products.

I hope that now changes.

Yep me too, i think AMD have also realised they need to win marketshare as a priority and build from there, rebuild their reputation as a premiere GPU and CPU manufacturer.

They have started the ball rolling with the RTG and Polaris, while not a great product for many, it has bought them back into the GPU game, next up they will launch Zen, i think again, they will try and shake up the CPU market, come in low and hard and suprise many people, i think its going to be something that will historically be remembered as the turning point for them, i know it sounds crazy but i really believe were on the verge of something quite incredible from AMD, not only a super product but i get the feeling its going to be priced such that a lot of people are going to be able to afford it, and it will shake the CPU market up.

After that comes Vega, i expect Vega to not be that cheap though, i think AMD will get consumers onside with Zen, and the mindset will change if the Ryzen chips are not only great but affordable, people will expect big things from Vega and probably wont mind shelling out a little more than expected to get it either if the confidence is there from RyZen.

sorry 150 runs also still showed a 6800k and 5820k being quicker. :D

look at the sheet then look at the scores times ;)

should have added ocd.also the rysen is ocd before people start.

That spreadsheets data is incorrect lol, i already said earlier AMD officially said it was 150 samples on version 2.78a x64.

That spreadsheet has no data at 150 samples, also RyZen was running at 3.4, they had disabled boost as it was still being worked on, so run it flat 3.4.

Even JayZ 2C commented on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic_5S5ymzy8

Well, i can't be bothered waiting for kaby lake and z270 doesn't seem all that exciting so i think I'm just going to get a z170 / 6700k setup so i have something to play with over xmas :)

X99 is a little too pricey for my blood.

Edit: ordered a 6700k, 16gb of corsair ddr4 3000mhz ram and the asrock gaming 6 board. After using my vouchers it cost me £140 which i will probably get back selling my old stuff :)

You been on 2500k for how many years? Another month lol.

Yeh i know :p

But z270/kaby is seriously underwhelming and will launch with higher prices. Cpu will be £360 and the boards that fit my needs will start at £200. So that's about £120 more than what i just bought.

There will be next to no difference in performance and i want something to tinker with on my week off :)

IMO wait for Zen or Coffeelake.

Kabylake (7700k) is exactly the same CPU as Skylake, that clocks 200Mhz higher on average. It also has a slightly better IGPU, which we don't care about. Skylake has been out for over a year, so in effect Kabylake is also already 'old' and IMO not worth the asking price at all (unless you benchmark/overclock for world records etc).

Zen should be a much better choice, or wait for the Intel 6 core mainstream i7's (codename Coffeelake) due out later in 2017 also. I imagine these will annihilate Zen.
