installed 2 6950s in crossfire today, but i cant run any 3d apps, been trying to run the heaven benchmark but i get the BSOD with the message (after it loads i hear sound for a few seconds then heaven crashes then the system bsods)

Attempt to Reset Display Driver and Recover from Timeout Failed BSOD

Ive tried using driver sweeper in safe mode but nothing is helping, also i noticed that i was only using one crossfire link so quickly put the other in, any other suggestions? Its definantly just 2 6 pin connectors per card for power? They have little 2 pin ones coming off the 6pin one too but that doesnt seem to go anywhere.

This was prebuilt from ocuk and was kind of hoping to avoid this problems by going prebuilt instead of builind my own :( Do they not test the systems before sending out?

screenie of settings:

If i click identify gpu it comes up with 1.

Hi it was the titan megalosaur so

2 x 6950
2500k @ 4.4ghz
4gb of corsair vengence
tx 750 corsair psu (upgraded from a 700w it was ment to come with)
500gb WD hardrive
H50 cooler

Temps are good on both, everything works fine until i try to go into a game or benchmark.

Will try one card, cheers.

nah,

quick update, after googling a bit i saw someone say sometimes there are ati driver issues with dual cards and heaven, and they could run heaven fine in windowed, and it was right, it ran in window mode fine, also started dawn of war up.

Extremely relived that it might not be hardware related, will try more games and if its just heaven then its a driver problem!

Did not know that no, bad company 2 is nearly done downloading on steam so will give it a try, i managed to play dawn of war fine, just heaven that doesnt work.

Is CCC identify crossfire properly? From reading the help section in CCC it should list available GPU's? I think something might be up with crossfire not working properly.

not sure what else to try, whats the procedure for making sure a driver uninstall/reinstall is completely clean?

Also the xfire links you attack to the two cards, do you just one or both of them?

edit: Trying the 11.4 RC drivers now, will fire up bad company 2 in a minute. Whilst uninstalling 11.2 from uninstall programs/control panel, it had the same bsod midway through uninstalling, im just so fed up why does getting a new prebuilt pc have to be so hard to set up :(

I wouldn't recommend using driver sweeper, or at least use it with caution. Worse case scenario is if it cleans to much then a new install is required as you won't be able to install the amd driver, happened to me the one and only time I used it.

you just need one link.

BFBC2 worked fine for about half hour of solid play, both cards being used so i assumed it was just a heaven problem, but then the sound got stuck in a loop and my pc crashed after half hour :( No bsod this time so it might of been a game problem, still wish i had chosen nvidia cards :(

aye yeah i was using it to monitor temps with it whilst playing, any similar apps you reccomend?

Cheers :)

Also is it me or does ati cards in game not seem quite as vibrant picture quality as nvidia? Im loving the 8aa and everything at max, but on lower settings on my old 460gtx it kind of looked a bit sharper/nicer colours, cant really explain it :p

I can't comment on the Picture quality sorry! Been using ATi since the start!

I believe that punkbuster and MSi Afterburner don't get on too well in BFBC2 as of recently. I don't know of any other apps sorry, I just end up using CCC to set the manual fan speed to 60% then play the game.

Hopefully they'll sort the problem soon!

its working fine now, thanks :) Guess my cards just dont like heaven benchmark

Bad Company 2 is running lovely at 8xaa, max settings and a solid 60fps with v sync on, dont really see the point of flashing them to 6970 yet.
