6950 faulty?

bought a His 2gb 6950 on the 26th, plays games great and runs cool however i have noticed in one or two game, bc2 makes a odd whiney noise once or twice, only noticed as i had headphones off which i game with and in the menu in killing floor(only in menu not while maps are running) it makes a noise like an old school 56k modem dialing out lol any one else experience this?

sounds like coil whine which is normal on some cards

Haven't experienced it myself, but then the fans on my computer are very noisy.

What PSU are you using. Sometimes it due to the PSU.

try enabling v-sync it can cure the coil whine which is often caused by super high frame rates (thus affects menus mostly).

I had this for a day or two every now and then. Been about 2 weeks now and noise has not come back.

psu should be fine, its a thermaltake 650 w few years old but run mmy system fine. will be upgrading at end of month cos im going xfire but it only has 2 6pin pcie cables, could use molex to 6 pin adapters but i dont think its worth the risk,will try the v sync but when its only menus its not a massive drama

If your 650w is a good quality PSU you won't have to upgrade your PSU as i'm going to crossfire with 6950's with a 650W PSU. The molex to 6 pin adapters will be fine

Its strange there have been a few threads lately about whiney cards, just put mine in today and it makes a whine but strangely enough when i'm browsing, once I actually put the gpu to use gaming or whatever it stops, it also changes pitch slightly when scrolling lol.

Its very quiet though and no louder than a hard drive spinning.

yes exactly like this. as for the molex to 6 pin it needs 2 to power 1 6pin. i have 2 railsfree but they have 3 molex per rail(dont know if thats right way to put it) do the molex have to go from the seperate rails?

going to wait till i get my 750w leapa psu rather have a lil more headroom seen as ill be ocing the I5 also
