6970 - FPS, performance issues

I assume this is the untested 'Lightning' card sold as a Twin Frozr III?

There are a few people having problems with these cards.

One in here and one in here that I can find immediately.

From what others have posted these cards shouldn't get anywhere 90 degrees as long as you have decent airflow in the case.

I can see what you mean in the video it looks like its pausing for a fraction then speeding up again. The card could be throttling as it's getting to hot. Best to check the card in a different system and confirm the problem and temps then send back for an RMA if it's the same in a different comp...

try underpegging the card to less voltage as youve said it isnt the psu so it limits it to me as the mobo (have you tried another slot) or the card itself.

either way underclock it and try switching slots.

did you try putting the old ram back in ? to test ?

You may need to manually set the timings for the new ram also.

What temps is Afterburner reporting?

Sounds like the cooler isn't making contact properly and the card is throttling as it is getting too hot as MOOGLEYS said.

Those temperatures (if they are the same as what Afterburner is reporting) are definitely too high.

FWIW I've got the same card and have just played 2 hours BF3 with the card loaded at 99% the whole time and the temperature didn't exceed 64C according to Afterburner. That is with the case side off, in a coolish room, with the fans set to Auto.

The stuttering is HYPERTHREADING

Have a 6970 lightning and to play BF3 you will have to drop your core by 10

I see they don't sell 6970 lightnings any more as in my opinion they were ridiculously OC as stock.

Standard 6970 880 core
Lightning 6970 940 core

I know loads of people will say that you can OC to around 1000 core but real world the thing just wont be stable.
