6970 to reduce price when 7*** series out?

It is the LG D2342 monitor mate, and i don't know what the other guy is saying about it limiting to 24fps with a HDMI because i play Skyrim in 3D with 30+ frames in the wilderness and 50+ in dungeons. the HDMI has not limited the frames at all and the LG says to make full use of the Monitor features you should use HDMI 1.4. i know my card does not have a HDMI 1.4 but i still se no limits to frames when using it.

Its a shame about the prices really i would have thought they would come down.

HDMI 1.4 specification for 3D limits 1080p to 24hz (48hz split to 2 eyes)

however the LG passive TV's do support 1080p 60hz (120hz split), however to get that you have to use the PC port on the back (D-SUB or DVI depending on model), not one of the HDMI inputs

it's hertz refresh on the monitor, not FPS on your graphics card

mind you, I didn't think ATI cards supported passive 3D at all so that's new on me

You may get the odd bargain bin card from time to time (like the GTX 480 for £190 etc) but eventually they'll just run out.

Firstly existing stock prices won't plummet due to what was paid for them by the stockists, so don't expect dramatic price drops. They'll possibly get cheaper as OEMS (MSI, Asus, Giga etc) clear stock and charge less at that point, but other than that I wouldn't be waiting around for a miracle to happen.

They'll just eventually disappear from the shelves all together.

I doubt there will be much of a reduction on the 6xx series as they are still very popular and capable cards. I imagine they will just go EOL and be phased out and replaced with the 7xx series.

this is what will happen tbh

why drop prices when the newer cards are basically same anyway just use less power. theyll just sell whats left and be gone. the new cards will just take there place in price and performance brackets.

Does this mean the 570's won't come down either? cause they are in competition with the 6970's I think?

From the look of it right now (subject to change, of course) the 7970 is out ahead of everything. So, with it performing faster than anything else it shouldn't change what we have.

Let's face it, the 7970 is a very niche card. It's expensive, it's mostly only good for waving thy schlong around (unless of course you game on 2xxx x 1xxx) or something or eyefinity.

At its price it has no competition, so why it would affect the prices of cards below it is a mystery. What I mean is if you have some sense and game at 1080p then the 6950/570/6970/580 etc are all still very valid cards with a very valid price.

I mean it's kinda like saying will all of Intel's CPUs drop in price because that silly 3900x or whatever it's called is out?

Of course not.

@RedTop89 and andybird123,

thanks for the info on the LG3D monitor, I toyed about with getting one just before xmas and was wondering at the time what the fps would be.

Don't think I'm going to bother now tbh, it was more an impulse buy at the time, I bought a P280 case and a cheap XFi fatality instead.

honest opinions. If your a huge gamer, like you spend a good 6-8 hours a day gaming and you wanna card that will let you run anything on top top top settings and you cba buying and ebaying a new card every 6 months.

Is it worth buying a 7970 tomorrow? or is it COMPLETELY unnecessary?

If you game at 1080p or under then no as the current 69xx series is more than capable of running anything at 1080P or below.

Higher res and with multi-screens then yes as the huge frame buffer and grunt to power uber res using a single card the 7970 would be perfect.
