6th Generation fighters and beyond.

Always prefered the looks of the YF-23.

I love the look of the Eurofighter-Typhoon but it's already long in the tooth before any recent upgrades.

The F22 is even more amazing to look at.

On YouTube there's the awesome documentary:

'FA-22 Raptor - Battle Stations - Modern Marvels - History Channel Documentary'

and there's always a critic:

'The Truth About the Useless F-35 & F-22'

Drone pilot seems a very short lived profession. I think it would be a better plan to code the AI to replace the drone pilots.

Unmanned does seem the way to go for military jets. I believe there are some issues with rules of engagement about shooting at people with them though.

Boeing have shown off some working prototype lasers. Anyone know if coupling a generator to a gas turbine as an electricity supply for the laser has been tested yet? Seems an obvious way to go

I read an article where seasoned F-15 or 16 pilots, about 4 of them went up in simulated combat against a single F-22 which apparently ' destroyed ' all four before they even detected the Raptor.

Typically I can't find the article. It was an online one though.

I remember reading the same / similar thing. The F22 pilot was calling out missile kills over the radio and none of the F16 pilots could see him.

I would however like to know what happens when you take away the stealth of the Raptor. A close quarters dogfight where they can see each other may give a different result.

Stealth unmanned vehicles that can be simply programmed to fly to the designated area, drop their paylod of smart guided weapons then return.

Eliminate the pilot and the things could be made to fly ludicrousy fast and perform the craziest G Turns.

Still need manned variants of interceptors but bombers dont need crews.

The F-22 has also sustained simulated losses to F-16, F-15 and numerous Typhoon pilots. As for the without stealth aspect, it has also sustained a simulated loss to a T-38 (that's a 50 year old plane) that visually engaged it without the F-22 pilot noticing it.

Later gens will be unmanned and able to reach anywhere in the world in one hour. This aircraft type is already in development, as I am sure you are already aware.

That's the one, thanks.

While I like the J-20, I wonder how much of it is copied stealth technology from the downed F-117 in the 90s ? Also, can it really be stealth capable with those canards ?

I'm shocked, all this talk and not a single mention of Iran's new state-of-the-art F-313, which, as we all know, is totally real and not a cheap fibre glass knock-up with over the counter avionics.

What is Stealth capable? Less detectable than say a Su-27 or Typhoon then yes.

What do you mean by Stealth - and how do Canards affect that more than elevons? I'm curious I don't see the difference.

There will always be a human involved somewhere in the process of the prosecution of a target. You will never have a robot deciding human fate. RPAS pilot therefore seems like a much long lived profession. It is certainly destined to be longer lived than airborne pilot.
