7 A Day - Really ?

7 isnt a problem for me. I probably average 7-10 anyway :D always eat fruit when im hungry instead of crisps, yoghurts etc and all my meals are pretty much just meat and veg.

TBH there is literally no need to eat any fruit at all ever, you could eat NO fruit for your entire life, only vegetables, and you would be likely to be healthier than the fruit eater, fruit is not needed at all to be healthy, only fruit I eat is bananas sometimes. You would probably be more healthy if you replaced all your fruit with vegetables. I used to read about nutrition etc. when I was into bodybuilding, so I know what I am talking about, not really as interested in it anymore, but just saying that there is no need to eat any fruit at all.

Yarp, but even you know, fruit isn't as bad as it is scaremongered to be given its slow digestion and steady release of fructose on the liver. As opposed to a can of coke or a spoon of sugar on your cereal that hits you with a double whammy quick hit of glucose and fructose. Not to mention the added benefits of the fibre and vitamins in fruit.

But hey, don't eat too much fruit, we'll all become obese :p

I think eating massive amounts of fruit is silly and pointless though. Not saying you will get obese from it, but it is not necessary to eat fruit if you are trying to be healthy.

Not necessary, but advisable, as part of a varied and healthy diet (moderation of everything). In my opinion, 5, 6 or even 7 pieces of fruit isn't really a massive amount though.

Eating the skins actually bumps up thier nutritional value beyond just starchy carbs, but not enough to reclassify them.

The x amount of fruit and veg per day is completely arbitrary and is complete nonsense.

Its a guideline, but for example, one portion of spinach or something would be more healthy than 5 portions of cucumber / lettuce or similar, so in that way yes it is actually nonsense, just a guideline for the uninformed. Similar to the other guidelines eg. "don't eat fat it makes you fat" etc.
