Hi i know there have been many threads on this but none were specifically my problem:

I got a new pc at christmas time 2009 and for a good few months it had been freezing on startup so id reboot and it would do this again about 5 times then work fine after that.

after that the problem went away and i thought it had just been a registry issue or something as id recently started using ccleaner but today i came back from 2 weeks holiday and the computer wont go out of this loop. ill reboot it and it will freeze again, reboot freeze etc. at the momment im using my pc in safemode with networking and it works perfectly (but i cant play my music ) so i have no idea what it is.

I have ran NOD32, AVG, malware bites, spybot, norton and all of them had nothing in the scans so i assume it isnt a virus.

My pc is definately not overheating as it runs at 50c all the time

im going through the process of updating all my drivers at the momment hopefully this will work but i doubt it

what should i do?

Too many different virus applications can cause chaos and how. Try axing More is anything than better
I assume this is an OEM ? What Windows is it? Do you have a Windows 7 Disk?
Can you return to an earlier Date?

all the virus scans were done after uninstalling the other programs so only one was installed at a time.

yes i think its OEM windows 7 64bit and i only have a system restore disc.

The problem has been since i first got my pc so i dont think returning to an earlier date woulkd help

You would be surprised at how many legitimate applications and services can mess up Windows. It is not always crapware!

Since you can reach safe mode, the next step is to run MSCONFIG and disable all your startup entries and services [except MS services - there is an option to Hide MS services, click it, then disable whats left in the list].

Now reboot normally - if everything is OK it would point to a service/startup entry. The next step is to go back into Safe Mode and now enable all your services. Reboot and see how it goes. If all is well - itll be a startup entry. Enable them one or two at a time and see if the problem shows up. If the problem comes back after enabling services, you need to work out which one of those it is.

It is a massive amount of trial and error - you may be able to narrow it down by checking your event viewer logs under System and Application to see if there are any errors around the time you last booted up.

its working now in normal mode :S

i rebooted like 4 hours ago and now its working fine :/ i have no idea whats going on lol

i think im gonna leave it another day to see if it is working, if not ill do the startup entries thing.

the event logger has critical kernel power problems or soemthing :/

My pc is definately not overheating as it runs at 50c all the time

What Withcraft is this !!!
My system temps go up & down under load.

I'd re install if I was you & switch off the Virus monitoring & run Avast, forget all teh other guff & leave Windows firewall on.
Just bare with me & run it like that & see if cures the start up. My 7 starts to quick, ******** thing won't even give me time to make a tea & a smoke now.

and its stopped working again :( the only programs i was running were firefox, msn and itunes :/ and sometimes it freezes on the logon screen :S

im gonna try to update itunes msn and firefox in safe mode see if that works

Did you disable all the services too?

Also, have you looked at the Event viewer yet, that might have the answer you are looking for.

That's what my post said :D

Services and start up entries are two different things [a service doesn't need a start up entry to run you see]. I wont repeat myself since the post is only up there a bit. :)

Trial and error with services is a lot of fun :p

The best approach I have found is to disable them all - check to see if problem goes away. If so, I then go back and renable half of them. Then check again. If it still works, I know the dodgy service is in the other half. Just keep whittling it down :)

oh yh, i didnt delete services because i couldnt see the hide MS services button and i didnt wanna delete something i shouldnt, ill have a nother look

Now i can run in normal mode most of the time but the odd time it will freeze now, maybe once on startup and a couple of times randomly :S this pc is ****ed up :(

Could be fun following SiriusB's instructions and a good learning curve but I am always inclined to butchery to format the HD and reapply- could be a poor original application of Windows 7.
What make of puter is it?

its a zoostorm but the only stock parts are HDD and motherboard now

i used the system restore disc i got with the computer twice to reinstall windows i think

How do you activate Windows 7 after reapplying? Is it automatically activated ?
I note that you do not have your Trust (Contact) activated!

This is my event viewer thingy.

when it froze this was the temps and voltages ( somebody told me that the voltages might be causing it)

I get a lot of error 7001 service control management errors :S i believe this is the problem i have been having. but i dont know how to solve it

Trust is one of the tabs at the bottom of your postings - Trust/quote/multi+/quick. If this is enabled one can contact the person - which may be useful for getting extra info
Your Temps would appear ok to me I wish my passive 9600 was running as cool as you video card
I assume you are running Windows 7 Home Premium?
