hello all

does anyone have any of thses drives yet in particular the 320Gb Seagate ST3320620AS Barracuda.

what the performace in gaming and office apps is like in your opinion?

What is the full oficial spec as i have notice some sites dont mention ncq and some only mention is 8mbs cache.

Scan's listed may be the one i,m after but i would like to be sure?

Thanks

Seagate's 7200.10 Datasheet

The 320GB looks very interesting, 2 platters so 160GB/platter. There's a review out there somewhere, and here is also an HDTach result graph.

Looks like it's definitely worth considering - 80MB/s begin transfer is pretty amazing, and the average over the whole 320GB is basically as fast as the 74GB Raptor...

i mean thats got to be something special it would be quieter and data write would be much faster and also quiter in theory.

anyone correct me on this?

hi

where did u get the grapg fromand mentioned about the reviews if anyone found any please post as i,m looking as i write this

thanks

hi

ya iuts hell of a drive on paper but it would be even better if some had it and commented on it, i read somewhere that the noise is on par with the raptor which is quite scary and considering that seagte these are a lot quieter than 7200.9.

seagates are usually quite and i also read some where about how the 7200.8 was a bit of a disapointment for some reason.

anyone confirm this?

i mean on paper these drives look and sound impressive but if you seen the other models for example 7200.8 they get hammered by the samsung p120 and the wd se16.

anyone one got one yet or review even but not the 750gb version!

I have two of the 320GBs arriving today to replace my last 2 IDE drives, going for an all sata system as its neater and a tad faster.

I have a 40GB raptor as a main drive and will run HD Tach on them all and post my findings :)

hi

thanks for the post, could you do a mini review on these two drives?

in terms of noise (in particular, seeking and idle), games and application performance (reading, writing), Heat.

use HD Tach 3.0.1.0, for benching if you can and activesmart for temperature.

anyone else for suggestions for software or others to be included in the review please include.(not to many guys let the guy enjoy his toys)

thanks

They have arrived and are nestled under my desk :D

There my first seagate drives so am pretty keen to try them out.

I currently have 7 Maxtor diamond max 10's (i was young and foolish) and a raptor, but will try and do a side by side comparison of each.

I'll try and include some real life tests as well such as moving large files and.....stuff :S

any suggestions are welcome, cant wait to get home :D

hi

7 maxtors bloody hell, please do a comparison with the raptor, and use the the software and what you suggested to bench them.

many thanks

No problem, if anyone else wants tests please let me know,

I'll try and make some real life observations, such as temperature when squeezed between 2 drives etc.

Yeah i have about 1.3TB, most of it is backups of my CD's and DVD's as i constantly scratch and lose disks, also I do a fair bit of encoding and photography.

With the 640GBs i just got will be around the 1.7TB mark as they are replacing existing drives.

Ill post some photos as well

thats great thanks for you time for this :)

Well I have put one in!

It booted up perfectly and im just giving it a quick format and initialisation (sp?) before the testing begins, its been about 30 minutes and its up to 20% so feel free to get a drink....not goin anywhere soon ;)

hi there

dont forget about the noise and its good point to listen to it when its formatting?

any noticable differences so far?

thanks

Yeah these are definetly some impressive drives! I transfered 50GB across in 30 minutes, but that was from IDE so not really pushing its limits.

I reckon i will replace the rest of my drives with these as the are the best value for money drive I have seen.

Just in case you didnt know, they have NCQ and 16MB of cache which makes all the difference in my eyes, and they are very quiet, but not silent of course, so dont expect miracles!

Best of luck with yours guys!

thats great

are these running at sata2 and most importantly the sound, how would you rate the spund compare lets say the raptor or just describe what you hear please.

thanks a lot for the pics and time for this and keep us posted and update us on the drives as well.

thanks

Aww schucks, im all red :P :o

I tried the Seagate tool and the Hitachi feature, both without a whole lot of success.

The Seagate one didnt offer much in the way of tweaking, more just checking the drive.

The Hitachi one didnt pick up the Seagate drive, but found the Raptor and Maxtors.

I'll fiddle more this evening.

is there any vibrations emitting from it to the case or when you holf it?

The only minor vibrations appear when it seeks, the rest of the time you can certainly tell its on, but after installing them it seems to be slightly quieter overall (remember i have 5 Maxtors and a Raptor in there as well!)

The maxtors definetly (sp) create a rumble when held in your hand, the seagates are the same noise/vibration when they seek compare to an idle maxtor/raptor.

I would think these would be very much at home in an HTPC or other quiet case project. The size and performance has left my Raptor in questionable territory!

Let me know what you guys think!

thanks for that

some reviews say these drives are as lound as a raptor some say its quite so its hard to tell unless you one.

you seem to be pleased with them interms of performance and sound.

tried any games yet and when i mentioned the vibration i mean well like a tardis noise resigantes from your hd or case, a problem i have with these p120s 250gb samsungs.

thanks again for taking the time for this, well im defantly thinking about these drives since the samsungs p120s have let me down on performance and acoustics.

i was thinking about the wd3200ks from western digital and these 7200.10 just come out, i have always been a wd fan but these drives could be exaclty what i want, in terms of the plethora of features and performace and it would be even more better to get some accuracy on the sound and vibration it makes since the p120s tought me that.

my pc is one the quite end so i need it to be as quite as it can be without tampering with the drive or hardware its self.

you seem pretty happy with them but really to be honest from the maxtors to these its a jump but if you had a similar drives you would be more skyptical like i am.

if i do get em i will defabtly let you know how they are but your time and inout certainly helps, i just hope storage review do a review on them particular the 320gb as it has 160gb platter so thats 2 all together, should be quiter and faster than similar drives.

anyone cares to comment on these drives please do so?

thanks

hi humax

thanks for that as i was sure they do?

how would you rate this drive in terms of sound compare to other sata2 drives do you think?

thanks
