>> 7300GT 256mb GDDR3! <<

So it might be better buying 2 of these for my conroe rig? I was originally planning to buy an X1800XT.

It would go with a E6400.

im pretty sure a X1800xt would be better, plus the 7300gt has the problem that in games where sli has little performance increase, there would a big difference between the two.

Get the X1800XT tbh. Would be faster overall. Especially with that processor.

These cards in SLI seem to be faster across the board than a 7600gt but not a X1800XT.

I can think of a good reson for OcUK to not sell these cards. The profit margin on them must be considerably smaller than the profit margin on comparable cards. The faster 7300GTs make it into the midrange on performance but are definitely budget on price. Less profit to be had, and OcUK is a business.

yea the profit margin on these cards must be really tight. i mean i have seen these 7300gt cards sell for 54 quid in vat for the gddr3 versions. first there is the manufacturing costs, then the packaging costs then the distribution costs, after that there is not much left over for the retailer to capitalise on.

If thats the case, a competitior, whom I shant name ;), is making a very healthy profit by selling them at 67 quid.

I've been reading this since the thread started and can honestly say these babies have tempted me towards a new rig from my ancient XP2800+ and 9800 AIW currently to a nice new mobo cpu and 2 of these in SLI....mmm

Athlon 64 3500+ @ £97
**B Grade** Gigabyte K8N Pro @ £45
2 X 7300 GT's @ around £60 each

£262 all in should see a nice increase and of course I could mooch around the MM to see if I could shave a few pounds off the above. what do you guys think, smart move or dead money for old/cheap tech ?

It is money for old tech, but it will be a lot more powerful than what you have.

OTOH, in 2 weeks £100 will probably get you an Athlon64 X2 3800. If it does, then my A64 3000, which I've been running at 2.25GHz for a year or more (i.e. about a 3500) and which will probably go higher on a motherboard that will handle more than 250MHz HTT base speed will be on sale for very little because I'll have bought an X2 3800.

EDIT: 3500 is bad value for money at the moment. You're looking at going Socket 939 and buying from OcUK. Check out the prices:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-147-AM) £97.47

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (Socket 939) - Retail (CP-121-AM) £91.59

normal 7300gt's can be found in the uk easily using google, the zalman equiped ones by galaxy are harder to find.... in fact I can't find them anywhere in the uk. if you know differently email me please

AMD will be having a price cut very shortly (mainly to do with Intel launching the Conroes).

Its a very bad time to buy a CPU at the mo.

I'll hang on until nearer xmas then and wait for prices to settle, plus these DDR3 beasties may be more readily available not to mention the fact I can get my other half to chip in for my xmas pressie lol. cheers fella's top advice as always

those prices dont make sence

the retail 3700+ is cheaper than the OEM version?
I thought that too, but it isn't the first time I've noticed retail more powerful A64s on sale "here" at a lower price than OEM less powerful ones. I've no idea why.

I do however wish OCUK would get some of the GDDR3 models in stock and also the 7600GST which seems to be excellent value based on the price I have seen on another online store.

I really want to have a play with SLI again and I Can't find a 6800Ultra anywhere so I am looking at these.
