75" or bigger

Option A: spend £6K now on 4k projector with next to no content

Option B: spend £2K now on a decent 1080p projector. Put £4K aside for the future when decent 4K projectors will cost £2K and you have access to content. Means you then have £2K to spend on a decent screen or speakers.

Option B looks like to be the most sensible option. future proofing for the sake of it with new technology is usually ridiculous when you could wait and get better tech for less than half the price.

The reason why many are waiting for OLED's to drop in price before upgrading

In your opinion Sonny. OP clearly wants to spend some money and the lack of 4k content just doesn't hold up as well anymore so if the OP does get a new PJ 4k is future proofing.

Also £2750 for an older model isn't top of the line. OLED is still new tech for this market and have had plenty of issues if spending the kind of money for 75"+ you would probably want the least buggy most future proofed option.

Well OP doesn't have a proper screen, he doesn't even have surround sound setup.

Yet people are saying he has cash to drop £19K on a 77" OLED? Was the only one I could find that was 75" or bigger.

Basically people don't have a clue that 75" is ridiculous atm for physical TV's. Do you really think he has £20K spare lying about to spend on a TV?

The same goes for 4K projectors. They aren't cheap. Yes they are cheaper than £19K but they are still ridiculously expensive for a half decent model. Your talking £6K.

OP needs to look at something smaller for a physical 4k screen especially if he's wanting OLED. If he's looking at LCD then yeah they are much more affordable but again I would hate to see the backlight bleed and clouding on a 75" panel (the bigger you go the worse it gets).

OP has also stated he doesn't use many 4k sources so no point dropping £19K on something which will be better and only cost £6K in 2 years time for instance. Doesn't make any sense.

I have a 75X9405 and I use it for everything from films to windows 7.
No lag in games. It's the best TV I've bought in a long while.

But OP is buying a TV now not 2 years in the past, so whats the relevance of the original price?

Relevance is that it re-iterates my original point. New tech and HUGE panels offer the worst in terms of value for money. Wait 2 years and you usually get better for half the price. Spending £4K on a 2 year old model would IMO be a waste.

Calibrated black level (4×4 ANSI) 0.078 cd/m2

it's black levels are same as LG IPS panels (which people on here tend to slate).

I'd rather spend £4K on an OLED however it will never be a 75" at that sort of money. The sweet spot for tv's atm is 55" any bigger and you start paying huge premiums. When you get to 75" it is ridiculous as the tv's themselves aren't even that good (like black levels see above) and as I said befor 77" OLED is £19K.

However I find my LG IPS panel to be very good. It's a lot of money for a 2 year old tv. Especially when you can get a newer 65" tv with better spec for less than half the money. Or even a newer 65" OLED for less money.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll stick with the current projector at the moment. Get the room set up properly and a screen and go from there :)

77" OLED at £19k is way over budget! £4k on the one in my OP would be the limit however I think I would benefit more from getting the most out of what I've got as mentioned, then get a screen, then look at the projector etc.

Most of my current media is 1080p as mentioned, Netflix, PS4 etc. Guess I'll hold out for a while longer before going 4k!

I think I've decided to go for the 75" Hisense. I too have a projector so most of my 1080P is all sorted. However I have a 3.5m distance from TV and wanted a large enough screen that also offered some 4K ability. It's budget for what it is and due to lower nit rate not UHD Certified I think for £2199 it's a bargain and will last a few years until the HDR/DolbyVision stuff sorts itself out.

Also, by time I go to buy in March it may have dropped even more.

Very cheap for a 75" tv but again it has it's downsides. processing is supposedly rubbish and it's not proper HDR, etc. Also the panel themselves I bought one for a family member and the colours don't look that great on them albeit mine was one of their smaller 4k models and a lot cheaper too. Hisense is good if your on a budget but if your serious about your tv look elsewhere.

I think that makes sense. You will be shocked how much better things look if you can battle all the light that's bouncing around. An alternative, and this is a good, if pricey option, is to spend a big chunk on an exotic ambient light fighting screen like a DNP Supernova 08-85:

It does mean dropping half your budget, or more, on the screen, though. Having said that, i've always subscribed to spending decent money on a screen. Projectors you'll go through over the years - a decent screen lasts forever.
