770 or 7970?

^ It's for the same reason that I suggested the 7970 X² at £320 as it Lightnings and Matrix cards are only for people wanting to get big overclocks.

Yet another thread that has loads of advice and not one person has even asked the opening poster if he intends to overclock. This simple question can have a large bearing on what card can be best for the opening poster.

going to overclock get the 7970.

not going to overclock get the 770.

OP as you have said you like PhysX, my advice would be to get the 770.

Both myself and Suarez7 have. Saying that the Ligtnings/Matrix cards are only viable for those wanting big overclocks is an invitation to the OP to state whether he's overclocking or not.

+1 the lightning/matrix are a waste unless you are striving for a 1300+mhz core clock or something and even then it isn't guarenteed.

If i was buying a 7970 today this is the one id get. Cheap and overclocks like a champ and the cooler keeps gpu temps low, even when overclocked.

I have the 7950 versions of them that do 1300Mhz on the core. :D

Yeah, they're really nice cards, the VRAM and VRMs have their own good heatsink too.

Yeah the HIS card is brilliant, wish I'd went with that over my Sapphire Vapor-X tbh.

They're really quiet as well and look pretty good.

I've put my 7970 up for sale, wanting to try a 770 for some strange reason, would have went 780 if it wasn't for the price. Will try the new top end AMD card out though when they eventually release it.

Its not strange, many like to play with new toys.

Yes but I know I'm just wasting money for nothing, I probably won't notice any difference.

Although one of the reviewers on the OCUK site for a 770 card said he "upgraded" from a 7970 and the 770 felt much better.

The infamous reviews where only 4 star plus reviews are accepted? :p

For the extra hassle I would hang onto the HD 7970, the GTX 770 won't be any faster or better.
