You can just get replacement so wouldnt have any worry about buying I actually like the look of the ref over any other AIB card and cheaper not that I would buy from either AMD or Nvidia this gen priced far too high ,

90c junction is not bad though, that’s exactly what you should be getting on the stock cooler. The delta should be 20-25c or thereabouts between edge/junction temp. If you want 5c+ lower hotspot temps get an AIB card. However, there is something not right if you have to put the case laying down to achieve that, RMA.

Not sure that’s true really. Historically yeah when talking about blower cards (although some Nvidia blower cards were perfectly fine, AMD certainly struggled more) - but the reference cooler on the 6800/xt/6900/50 were all excellent. Some of the quietest cards on the market.
My 7900xt is brilliant - nice size, nice construction, no problem with thermals or noise what so ever. The idea it’s ‘shockingly bad craftsmanship’ seems somewhat exaggerated. This card feels better put together than plenty of AIB cards I’ve seen in the past.
Clearly there is an issue with some XTX’s but it doesn’t seem to impact all of them. Which makes it seem like there’s obviously an error somewhere, as some of them are working just fine - some aren’t. If the design was ‘shockingly bad craftsmanship’ then all of them would be dire out of the box, but that isn’t the case.

Could be, I know RT can be demanding on the CPU. However I always thought PR was totally GPU bound.Sorry i'm probably boring people but i would love to get to the bottom of this. Why in port royal my GPU doesnt go above 80%. Is my 3800x bottle necking it at 1440p? The CPU load is around 20%...

I think you are overlooking the obvious in that its a faulty card. Its not performing right you have proved it already. Sounds to me like its a problem with the cooler either its not been assembled right or is not mounted right. Taking it off might reveal why but then you have warranty issues.
Echoing loads of people "get it returned".
Note my Powercolor XTXH 6900xt the hotspot would hit 105c in Timespy they are rated upto 110c. However I was getting 19500+ in Timespy. (I replace the TIM with Liquid Metal and my hotspot dropped 20c).
RMA your card. Shout at DPD. Or take it to a DPD drop off shop or your local DPD depot.

Yeah, sorry, was thinking about the gens older than last.
AMD original refused RMA for 110c temps because according to AMD support as long as it doesn't go over 110c it's working as intended even if that means it cuts several hundred MHz from the clockspeed due to throttling
But it looks like AMD is now accepting RMA and investigating the problem.
The real kicker is that their marketing spent so much effort trying to mock Nvidia's adaptors, glass houses and all that, sweep your own door first and now AMD has an overheating GPU

I have had a few reference cards in the past AMD wise, they always seem to struggle. Shame to see in 2022 they still struggle in some way. For the money these are its madness.
I did see somewhere, some person has taken his xtx apart already replaced the thermal paste as It's hardly even there ha, and put thermal pads in as zero of them either.
I can see me getting a 4090 at this rate lol.

This is the exact experience I have with my MBA 7900xtx. The only difference is coil whine is an issue, especially in game menus.This is interesting as I've seen these reports of 110C hot spot temps and extreme noise elsewhere. I've got the Sapphire MBA card, and have highs of GPU temp 70C, memory junction 90C and hot spot 92C. This is at 100% GPU usage of Red Dead Redemption 2 1440P mostly ultra settings over a session lasting 3 or 4 hours.
My fans never go about 63-65 at max, and I can't seem to hear any fan noise with my iPod wired headphones in (non-noise cancelling). Mine boosts to around 2800 mhz or so and I'm honestly really impressed by how quiet the fans are at around 1760rpm (65%). This could be because I'm coming from a crossfire 290x reference dual blower setup though!
I'm actually using this same psu and it seems to be alright so far. Others more knowledgable than me have said 850W should be enough.
I am running a 1000w PSU, but 850w should suffice unless you're redlined on overclocking on your card and CPU and have a bunch of peripherals.
