Which card is faster out of the two choices?

Presumably both will be much better than the 7600GT i have now

The X1800XT would be faster and have better image quality.

What about the X1950Pro?

Ahh, well, the way im doing it, it will cost me £4 for the 7900GS and £9 for the X1800XT

A 512Mb 7800GTX is another option but that would be £34

Actually.. It probably wouldn't by a long way... Go for the X1800XT.

But at £34... The 512MB GTX looks nice.

512Mb 7800GTX would be mildy faster than the x1800 XT but not by much... x1800 XT looks like a stronger card than I thought.

Spotted benchmarks, looks like the 7800GTX is slightly faster, however that's with both older drivers...would be interesting to see how much faster the two are with latest drivers, and if the X1800XT fares better.

The X1800XT (512MB at least) beats the 7800GTX, by a fair margin too. The benchmarks you will see were based on the old ATi drivers. Since about Cat 6.3, the X1800XT became faster than the 7800GTX. It's faster than a 7900GT too. I don't know where it comes in against an X1950 Pro - anyone care to enlighten me?

You sure you're looking at the 7800GTX 512MB? There's a huge difference between the 512MB and the 256MB.

Agreed. The 7800gtx 512mb is a completely different animal to the plain 7800gtx 256mb. It's at least as much faster than the X1800XT as the X1800XT is over the standard 7800gtx. In fact next to the 7900gtx the 7800gtx 512mb was nvidia's quickest single gpu graphics card before G80.

100% sure. Virtually all the benchies you will see are pretty much from Dec 2005, whereas the upgraded drivers came out in early 2006 - after which the X1800XT 512MB beat the 7800GTX 512MB (yes, I know, the beast of an overclocked 256MB card with more memory).

- I am saying X1800XT 512MB, unless of course you can get your hands on the 7900...
