7900gt??????

I've had an XFX 7900GT for ages, no probs.

The main trouble seems to be cards that are "factory overclocked" - they're pushed too far for the stock coolers, IMO.

Stick with a vanilla card, and you'll be fine

Theres also the fact that it doesn't happen straight away, as he said it ran fine before, but now not, some ppl's have gone outside of the 28 days, you don't know when they are going to fail, thats why buying them is risky as they could be fine for months, but i thought the problem had been fixed now, obviously not if his is only 8 days old, but he's lucky in a way i spose as its failed so early, could have gone outside of the 28 days, and then he could have had 28+ days to wait for a new one as it would have had to have gone to the manufacturer, but he gets a new one straight away from the place he got it from.

I know the EVGA ones are sorted.

Bugger this is in the wrong thread. :( :D

I thought i was still in the other one about the faulty GT.

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the nvidia 7900gt cards are safe to buy now, ive heard a lot of bad stories about them.

cheers

steve
I've got a BFG overclocked one which runs fine.
However, you have to overclock (preferably volt mod) these cards to get any decent performance out of them.

I was totally underwhelmed with mine when I got it.
Cost me £246 from OCUK when I could have got an X1800XT for about £217 at the time.

Only now I've done the volt mod and upped it to GTX speeds do I feel I've actually got value for money.

Odd that there doesn't seem to be any recent rumours regarding the build quality of these cards. Would have been nice if there had been some proper kind of official diagnosis & response to the problem. I reckon Nvidia have just given up with them & are looking to the future instead. Shame cos these are great clockers.
On the other hand mine is still behaving impeccably [/looks around for something wooden]

Thanks for the reply guys.

Im just wondering what to do, i have a 7900gt and its (for lack of a better word) buggered, rips/tears and all kinds of nice stuff, im goin to return its to where i purchased it from but as this is the only pci-e card i have i need something to replace it until its either fixed or replaced.

I have a sli motherboard but i didnt want to buy another 7900gt to only have that go wrong (another £200+ wasted). I was thinking of getting a 7600 and then when they cant fixing my 7900 asking them to replace it with another 7600 its either that or biting the bullet and buying a radeon.

Any advice you guys have would be great

Id stay away from 7900GT cards, even the GTX cards have issuses. Ok they are supose to be more reliable now as they are using different ram and uprated Caps. But its just not worth it.As LoadsaMoney says they go faulty after som time. Mine run sweet for a week then started to bulls up.

Ive had 2 7900GT cards die and altho many run fine, some dont . From what ive read from varous forums even the newer cards still get probs. Ive decided to stick with my 7800GT SLI setup as they are solid. If i was you id go 7600GT SLI if its enough for you go with this.

Again many will get the ump and say the 7900GT cards are ok well maybe for them they are. But i went against what id read and purchased them and it was a pain getting a refund. They are awsome cards if your lucky to get a solid one but i just had enough.

Sorry to go on, in short get 7600GT SLI or move to ATI. Just my 2cents.

The reason i brought the 7900gt was that it would last me until i needed another card then i would get another and Sli which seemed to make sence and save a bit of money.

I just cant belive how unstable these cards are and im glad to be sending it back altho if they replace it i may be finding my way to ebay.

Ive gone for a 7600gt for now altho i maybe getting another one as soon as im sorted but ive not heard that many bad words against them. The reason i didnt go for Ati was the Sli option.

Just so you know it took 4months for my 7900 to go pear shaped and i was really happy until then but the amount of problems and intermitant issue are crazy and i get the feeling that the problems are being swept under the carpet i just hope the next gen cards are more stable

cheers for all you help guys

steve
