7900GTX pre-orders?

There wont be any preorders until the NDA is lifted. And since the cards will be released when the NDA is lifted, then there will be no pre-orders (unless Gibbo has secured some deal with Nvidia to start selling cards early or something).

Yields are excellent for this card so there should be good availability.

No point in pre-orders, OcUK already have the cards in stock, they can't put them up to buy until the NDA is lifted on Thursday, then you can by one straight away. :)

Welcome to the forums. :)

EDIT: beaten by DP.

Yeah basically the cards don't 'Officially' exist yet, but as soon as NVidia announce them (9th March) they will be available to buy.

I'd like to know if the x1900's will drop again in price the same day, whether I should buy a 7900 over an x1900 and also whether I should just wait until summer when direct x10 comes out as some people have stated?

Questions, questions.

Are these cards effectively dual core (ie SLI on one card)? Haven't really been paying much attention.

I think that was an 7800GT Asus made maybe wrong tho they require their own power from the mains.

No, all they are, are speedboosted 7800 cards with a die shrink.

The 7900gt should be slightly faster than a 7800gtx512 and the 7900gtx some 11% faster, i cant remember the exact numbers but its enough to, iirc, get nvidia back on top.

there will, however, be offical cards with 2 cores on one card (to allow for quad SLI) - not 2 cores on one die.
Packing 1gb of ram.... these aint gonna be cheap :p

No the 7900GT is definately not faster than the 7800gtx512 even with the dual GPU. The 7900GTX512 is obviously but not by that much as nvidia have hit some issues with getting the Ram as fast as they want and instead of waiting for some faster DDR3 or (DDR4 even) have gone with the same stuff as ATI did on the X1900 range.

7900GT from early news i read appears marginally slower than a X1800XT.
Though the 7900GTXa ppears about as fast as a X1900XTX if not margianlly faster.

The interesting thing with this release is hat Nvidia are massively lowering prices.

Prices around £350-375 have been spooted (full UK e-tailor prices) for the GTX.

The US RRP is $300 for the 7900GT
$400 for the 7800GTX 512Mb
$500 for the 7900GTX 512Mb.

And it looks like these prices are accurate for retil, even in the uk once VAT is added. These prices are a lot cheaper than previous generations, and cheaper than ATI's current prices.

However, I expect the pirces in the next week or so to be artificially elevated because of demand etc.

These cards are all single core cards, but special 'Duo' cards are expected end of the month. These are like the Assus 7800GT SLI cards, but will be for both 7900 GT and GTX. These cards are a lot cheaper than simple 2X eahc of thecards so you make a big saving going SLI with these special cards. They work as normal with an SLI MoBo, like the NF4 etc. These cards are NV's high end.

And it doesn't take a genius to work out an LSI 790GT will absolutely kill price-performance wise.

XFX 7900GTX XT is £319+VAT
XFX 7900GT XXX is £215+VAT
XFX 7900GT VIVO is £193+VAT

Don't know what OCUK will be charging probably a bit more for day of release ownership, but these are Etailor prices from another UK based supplier. They have stock ready to ship for tomorrow, quantities are limited but we are talking 30+ cards of each type, more at the lower end. The XFX 7600GT is only £129+ VAT I hope it's worth the money above the 6800GS!
