7950 Crossfire Usage issues..

Just tried a HIS Boost card with one of these stock cards and it does the fluctuating usage and FPS issues again. The fan on this card has now completely died and just clicks when you spin it. :confused:

I'm going to try the Good HIS card with a stock 7950 and see what happens.
 
Same issue with the good card and a reference card. Usage is all over the place and the FPS jumps and rubber bands.

It seems these cards with the boost stock bios will not run in crossfire.
 
My cards are ok with the boost bios since the 13.2 drivers, but I hate the 1.25v its just stupid. Really I think the boost bios is crap and a waste of time. Running lower clocks on the giga bios I get better benches than the boost bios on a higher oc!!
 
It amuses me that you think GPU Tweak would have such a helpful option... lol :p

Why can't oc tools support their own brands hardware properly?

The TFIII I sent back wasn't applying voltage through AB, even though it said it was.

The only oc tool that would apply core voltage to both gpu's of my mixed gpu combinations without making a fuss was Trixx(7970 OC/7950 DD, Ice-Q/ DD and TFIII/Ice-Q combinations), but until the next update(afik), it doesn't let you apply vram voltage, leaving you stuck on stock vram voltage-back to square one.

1.25v is stupid for sure...

both of mine can do 960mhz with default voltage (1st = 0.993V and 2nd = 1.031V)

I really don't know why they did this with the voltages.

They did it for worst case scenarios. There will be chips out there that can't do 1050 with out a big increase in voltage.
It's just to play it safe with stability.

Both of my low Asic(66/61) Ice-Q boosts running@1200MHz on stock boost voltage.:D

Maybe the differing Asic/voltage is the problem, the same Ice-Q that I used with the high asic TFIII done the rubber banding issue that moogley experienced.

My cards have an Asic of 62 & 61 and the working card happily sits at 1200/1600 without any voltage adjustment and remains under 75.c. The fan makes a horrid whining noise though even at idle. So I have one card that the fan does not work at all anymore and one where it whines, great quality control by HIS.... :(

Low asic cards have the best statistical changes of being the best clockers simply for the fact that they can take more voltage and don't heat up as much as high asic when lots of voltage is applied. However its still all down to the silicone on your card. This is why all msi 7970 lightning cards are 70% asic or lower. Its still possible to find great clocking high asic cards like mine though.

I had the same cards and had nothing but trouble with them, nothing wrong with the cards themselves as far as testing each one, but they boosted whenever they felt like it, temps were all over the place and gaming was a bit hit and miss, whether in crossfire or not, I tried just about everything including all the advice offered here and more, it just became too much hassle....hense why I sold them on and returned to a single card solution from nvidia.

I think your reluctance to discuss the issues you were having got in the way of a fix. Had you outlined what the issue was, I know I would have certainly suggested using an alternative BIOS which would have fixed all your issues, and you'd have significantly more performance now.

Good to know I can aim for more, just sat both of mine to 1200MHz and was happy at that.

It must be me sitting with two of them in wait if needed, but I'm liking the overall temps due to the rear venting and it can't stay this cold forever.

Yep! I just need to have a play with the memory clocking, I've had a little play but I think they will need a bit of a voltage increase to go for some good memory clocks.

Jarrod was pumping a fair whack through his vram.

Cant wait to get my second. Also, my ram is SO close to being stable at 7000mhz, but the HIS iTurbo doesn't let me overvolt the ram past 1.68, is there a BIOS flash or anything I can do to remedy this?

Does anyone have a clue what's safe in regards to pumping voltage through the vram?

Iirc, you have the other Ice-Q, is it the same pcb as this one if you can remember?
