7950 GX2 clocks

Run my gainward 7950@ 607/800, seems to be the limit for both core and memory... No idea what it autodetects...

Temps are quite hot, i've seen it upto 92C, and the gpu between the pcb's can get as high as 100C.. idle temp is 58C and 73C for the other gpu.

The driver displays the temp from the cooler gpu.. It's good upto 120C :D

That sounds a little scary. I read they ran hot but had no idea it was that hot.

 Im totally stock getting 6890 in 06 is this poor ? or just cpu limitation

Specs:

AMD x2 3800
ASUS A8n32sli nf4
2 Gig of ram
ASUS 7950 GX2

What CPU score are you getting? That CPU OCed to 2.5GHz or greater should pull something approaching 2000. At stock it'll score a fair bit less. My rig, with the GPUs at stock and the CPU at 2.65GHz, gets just shy of 8000 in 3DK06, for reference.

People worry to much about temps, its perfectly safe..

I have no doubt it is well within the safe operating temps, but it more a case of peace of mind.

I do wonder how a 7950 would fare in my setup and I must admit I am close to trying it out.

But i do wonder as I use a single 7800gt woould it be just as efficient to pick up a used 7800gt and run it in sli?

Currently I run mine at 500/1100. If I could fine anotehr that would clock to this level and for cheap would it perform just slighly under the 7950 performance or is it like a real night and day difference.

You would get a noticable performance increase from getting another 7800GT, but even at the same clockspeed its performance would still a far bit off the 7950GX2 as its only got 20 Pixel Pipelines whereas the 7900GT/GTX have the full 24 plus the 7950GX2 has the full 512MB per GPU.

It's upto you, a second 7800GT might be enough of an an increase to last until DX10.. ;)

I think DX10 will be a bit of waste of time for at least a year after release. By the time games start to use it we wil be on our 2nd or possibly 3rd gen of gfx card. Better off upgrading then. ;)

Would I be able to run games at my dell native res of 1680x1050 if I use a second 7800GT? I am more interested in that spect of upgrading rather than pure out and out performance. Say if I could find one relatively cheap?

Agreed. However DX10 cards will be quicker than dx9 even in dx9 games. If you upgrade regulary then I see little point in playing the waiting game as there will always be something better/faster around the corner.

I don't think they will be quicker at DX9, if anything slower. I think the first round will be features over speed.

My advice would be by cheap now and wait for the 2nd/3rd gen. All the bugs/issues should be fixed by then.

HI Gainward Bliss GX2

91.45s detect 588 and 784 for my 7950.

G

PS just put system together so letting it bed in before overclocking.

Im going to give overclocking a go today. the card is now running at 550/700
the cpu tho i aint got a clue about ratios and stuff so ill give it a go.

Redwings where too in cardiff are you thats where i live.

Fairwater represent :)

My EVGA 7950GX2 autodetects at 556/707. Using the 91.45 drivers too.

Don't see the point in clocking it much more because I'm seriously CPU limited at the mo.

Maybe but I couldnt say with any certainty as i've never tried two 7800GT's and im not really sure what the performance would compare to..

But, going by reviews it should be enough to game at 1680*1050... Seems to cope ok at 1600*1200 and thats with 4xAA/16xAA in some of these benchmarks...

If you want more just google 7800GT SLI review... ;)

I sure you could get a cheap one of ebay though.. :)

Just a quick question for all you 7950GX2 owners.

Is it worth replacing my x1900xtx, as I don't want crossfire? (It pretty quick 7.4k in 06 an near 15k in 05) Some of the reviews don't show it any faster.

Would it scale well with my cpu at 16x12? Playing Oblivion and Prey?
