7950 upgrade?

It is though, the performance difference isn't much at all plus it's always better to have a single card solution if it's available,

I hear what your saying, but like I said there isn't a single card that can really touch crossfired 7950 cards, unless it's had a big overclock. The point in the discussion is the bang for buck and performace increase for the money. It would be a downgrade to go for a very expensive single card rather than a very cheap upgrade for the extra performance. What is it, £600ish for a 780ti? Thats a ton of money for something that wont perform as well or even equal to what you'd get if the op went and spent £130 on another 7950. Thats the point I'm trying to make.

Go look at the Unigine Heaven benchmark for examples. Kaapstad managed "Score 1682, GPU 290X @1280/1625, CPU 4930k @4.7" which is the very best R290X, hugely overclocked, you know Kaap lol

Now look at the best Crossfire 7950 score, on a much weaker CPU all be it 300MHz higher clock "Score 2071, GPU 7950 @1290/1730, CPU 2500k @5.0"

And if your talking stock for stock, a R290X still scores lower than 2 7950s.

This is 2 7950s in Crossfire at stock
Score 1548, GPU 7950 @925/1250, CPU 4770k @4.3, GoogalyMoogaly

Compared to 1 stock R290x
Score 1324, GPU 290X @1000/1250, CPU 4770k @4.5, VincentHanna

Stock for stock the 290X doesnt beat stock 7950s in crossfire and also the R290X bench had higher clocks on the CPU as well plus higher core clock.

How is it the point of the discussion? The OP hasn't mentioned once anything in relation to cost of said upgrade, just wants to know what current cards are out there/around the corner.

If he's looking second hand for a 7950 at around £130, I picked up a 290 for under £200.

I'd probably recommend looking at game benches that the OP plays to use the difference to see how much is in it, either way it's about 10% at stock which is minimal.

Added to the fact it's not got great PCI-E lane speeds on his mobo which will take a hit also, with them being close together crossfire is also very hot when it comes to this unless they're reference design. Also what PSU do you have OP?

After coming from a 7990 previously my 290 is like butter in comparison there were times when the 7990 was very choppy/stuttery.

My two cents. :)

cheers mate I have a Silencer mk3 600w

My advice. I used a 7950 for 12 months and only sold because of the bit coin mining craze and used the cash to get a MSI 290 Gaming Edition. Very worth while upgrade, even at only 1080. I sold my 7950 £220 and bought a 290 for £320 new so cost only 100 quid to upgrade.

He's in a graphic card forum asking for advice and pointing to his 7950. The point in the discussion is to find out what options he has available to him. Now in my opinion what's the point in buying a single new gpu for anywhere between £400 to £700 when he could add a 2nd 7950 for a quarter of that price that would outperform any single card. That to me is a no brainer and my two sense.

Check your email/trust.

You will have to resend that mate trust was set to an old email account, never really used it.

And to everyone in the thread, thanks for the input, im open to all ideas,

As it stands a single card may be the best way forward as my mb isnt the best for crossfire, or would it still be worth it at x4?

Im assuming i would get better performance out of a newer single high end card.
