7970 Artifacts on low OC?

Noted Andy, consider kombuster gone! As I said in an earlier post I'm a novice at gpu clocking/testing..

Did your friend rma his cards?
 
No he bought them second hand so sold them on.

He just couldn't get them to work at all.

I just hope you haven't damaged the card running Kombustor. Still, with a little help from the person you bought it from you should be able to RMA it.
 
NP, I'll do some stock testing in games tomorrow and see if I get anything as bad as those screens.

Is the first year of powercolor warranty with retailer or is it always a direct to Taiwan 4 month wait?

I believe the first year will be with the retailer. At least their returns policy states that you deal with them (although it doesn't state a specific time period).

Fifa 12 is an interesting one. I assume you are still running the RC11 drivers?

It is possible that a newer set of drivers might fix the issue (not saying it will but it is possible). You definitely want to try some other games as this could be something unique to Fifa 12 or something more wide spread. From an RMA point of view it would be better if it was the latter as trying to prove a card is faulty based on one game might be difficult (by this I mean proving fault to the retailer not me).

Obviously I am hoping the card is perfectly fine and this is a game / driver issue as I don't want you (Paul) to think I knowingly sold on a duff card (the only reason it was sold was so I could test out Nvidia Surround on a 680 - I couldn't justify keeping the 7970 as well).

I do not own Fifa 12 so I can say I never tested the 7970 in this game.

I must admit the Fifa 12 issue has me a little perplexed. Out of the two games tested; BF3 and Fifa 12, I would expect BF3 to be the one to highlight issues with the card given the vast differences in the game engines.
 
That's a relief if it's with the retailer should it come down to that.

The odd thing is fifa was fine on RC11 the day before, I'm going to try and get tomorrow of work so I can give the card some extensive testing on games at stock. And I agree, I would have thought a game on an oc pushing 99% usage would be more likely to freak out than a game at stock only using 30% of the cards power.

I don't think you've tried to pull a fast one either Owen, you've been very helpful :)
 
Ok I think yesterdays mishap with Fifa12 was down to something else, its fine today, as is BF3, batman AC, unigine, crysis, 3dmark11. Will be trying some others tonight, at stock of course.

Also now on 12.4 WHQL. Have tomorrow off work now too, so should be able to have a good test of everything tomorrow.

Any Benchmarks/games anyone can recommend I try?

Are the latter two on the 12.4 WHQL drivers? Does it do the same thing on previous drivers?
 
Yup on 12.4 WHQL, not that I noticed, I'll roll back again to RC11 in the morning and see. Its certainly not been this bad at stock up until now. Saying that everything was fine earlier on 12.4, had heaven running for a good 40mins with no problems. May give the 12.5 betas a whirl too.

Also going to do a fresh windows install tomorrow too.

Its been a long week :o
 
Been up since 7am on my day off, been throwing everything I can at it (within reason) at stock, no problems on anything.

I do however have a theory...sure I've read about this too...

Overclocking the card and the dropping back to stock pushing out the errors similar to above, hence why BF3 while OC'd was fine, drop back to stock play fifa12 and it went nuts. From what I managed to find on it, rebooting or even putting the machine into sleep mode solves this is jumping from OC to stock.

Going to see if I can replicate the problems I had yesterday, reboot and see if they disappear.
 
Right now I know its me and windows and not the card...I'm going to sell it!

Had a little play earlier on a friends 580 SLI setup using 3d vision, I have to say I'm impressed, as I already have the monitor...its 680 time.

Just to clarify, there must have been something lurking in my old windows install that made the 7970 react poorly, quite what exactly I have no idea but its been running at stock all day and its been perfect :)
