7970 + bf3

Ur minimum fps would be better with crossfire! Especially on low settings!

I play bf3 on a oced 7970 everything on low mesh quality on ultra 2xmsaa fxaa on high fov 90 and it never drops below 100 except on karkland maps!

Curious... what do you lot get when there's lots of action on Metro, the lower street part where you go up the stairs to the top ledge. When the street is filled with black smoke and debris flying all over the street as well as players running about... you more or less can't see anything down the lower street for black smoke. I usually get mid to low 40's there. Everything Ultra except player and map textures since I'm limited to 1GB.

I'm always amazed how low the cpu and graphic card usage is on this game. Most of the time I see the game using 30% cpu, the cards can range from 50 to 85/90% usage depending on the amount of action on screen.

Maybe this isn't the cause but it might just be the servers you play on. Some servers seem to kill frame rate for players, not sure why, just something I've noticed about playing online over the years.

doesnt work on bf3, as expected

What sort of internet connection do you have? There's something seriously wrong with BF3 also in the sense that when I'm using Crossfire with 7970's on an empty server, GPU usage is 98-99% on both cards, but when the server is full it can go down to 85% on both cards even though CPU usage never goes above 75% average. It will probably take them until the next game to sort it out.

You shouldn't expect much more than 80FPS with a single 7970 at stock settings at least. I hit between 50-60FPS with my Sapphire 7950 OC edition.

Overclocked 7970 to 1150/1650 with 120FPS sounds about right, though. 80 is a bit low with 1250/1700. You got V-Sync on?

On low?

Gulf of Oman, same settings as previous

Min Max Avg
80 177 115.42

same as me then, 5850 crossfire used to drop to like 95fps.. swapped them out for 7970 because i thought it could at least keep 100fps minimum, actually getting 15fps less then 5850's

It's probably just the odd map that's not properly optimised for the 79** cards just yet.

Might be worth filing a report to the Catalyst team to add it into a future driver? http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3

amd should be releasing a new driver soon, i'll wait see what it likes... really disappointed in the performance on bf3 though was really expecting to see 15 (minimum)fps more then my 5850's... not less

It's a lot better than day 1 drivers, in some parts of Oman I was getting 50fps!!! That was sorted on the next driver though. Every driver release has seen a major increase, and after testing a few maps tonight it's only Oman that drops that low for me.

really? seems to be happening on a lot of maps for me, are you using 12.4 + caps?

Using 12.4, but never bother to install the CAPS unless I have in game problems. I run with vsync on at 60fps (Ultra preset with FXAA injector) and just let my gazelle like reflexes take the up disadvantage at the loss of having vsync on :p

CF 5850s will be faster than a 7970 in most situations provided you aren't vram bottenecked.

And running any game on anything but ultra settings with a top of the line card = fail

performance is more important to me in bf3 all i want is 100fps solid with no drops. 100fps on low settings with top line card = fail.

What's the point paying for a top end card like the 7970 and then putting the settings down to minimum?? Seems a complete waste of money to me.

Do you notice a minimum of 70 being that different from a minimum of 100 in BF3?
