7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Have gone with a chiller keep temps really cold on ivy.

How much did that cost you? Most semi-decent chillers I've seen are £250+.

A little out of my price range atm, I would like one but I can't justify it.

Edit: I may have a look at work tomorrow to see how much an industrial unit for CNC machines run in, a peak online shows them cheaper than the Helia versions, plus I should save ~40% cost price. I also have a compressor unit from a dehum under my bench somewhere, might dig that out too and see what I can do with it.

I see your point with the x79, but as for the case, i could mod the case, and i am just planning on having ssd's inside + external caddie for hdd's, but to change it would be purely for asthetics.

Have a look around the project logs, I'm fairly sure a chap modded his 1200 to accommodate a fair amount of WC kit including a 360 radiator :)

Cost me £320 but worth its weight in gold already. In all cost me £360 with armaflex to protect Motherboard.

Perhaps for a bench but without water I don't really want to go much higher than 1.25v.

Yeah I get 2115 at stock, you might get better power delivery on the ln2 BIOS?

Haven't really pushed my memory yet, may do it tonight if I get chance :)

Edit: just realised that is on the ln2 BIOS.

yeah ln2, improvement of 25 core and 20 mem

do we know max safe temps?? mine seem pretty good compared to some others, and if i am under threshold surely i can push a bit more????

Give it a nudge see what happens, yeah seems all the lightnings have low ASIC, but I'm not convinced it means a great deal tbh.

What's the Max voltage under ln2 BIOS?

same as normal and no extra tweaks for me unless you have to alter .cfg file(back on standard bios now so not 100% sure)

just took volts upto 1330 but it just artifacts anything above my max 1206, turned all case fans upto max and gpu fans on max
max core temp 49c(is water gonna make a differance when max load temp is that low??)

just pushed to 1350 mv with a 1220 core, ran for 20 seconds then heaven froze, temp only hit 52c, certainly less artifacts than 1330mv, so possibly heading in right direction, but not gonna try anymore until more infomation is available and waterblock results

Back the memory clock down to 1700-1750 and you should be able to put the core clock up a bit. AFAIK, putting the memory up higher reaches point where no benefits are gained.

Would a safer route be to leave the memory stock, up the core to its limit then start to work on the memory?
