7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

It's not a fault so to speak, it's a used looking card, and I provided pics etc.. But I can't fault the pics. I've had in warranty RMAs that I've had to send back for testing before as is normal practice :)

I guess I expected perfect service when paying £450 for a single card.

Did you test the card? I'd probably keep the card regardless of it looking used if it clocked well tbh.

Could you show us the parts of the card which made you think it was used?

I know what you mean, though I can't remember why you returned yours now?

I was thinking of using it and see if it clocked well, but I'm an old school kinda guy, I pay top money, I expect a top quality item in return, so I've had it exchanged (Monday).

I don't want to put pics up as there were a fair few of them, but everything from the box, to the card looked used, shame, I really wanted to fully re-build up my PC this weekend, only thing stopping me moaning too much is 5UB's service again :)

First card reached in excess of 80C with stock clocks/volts in heaven OCUK standard settings. Reached 100C in some cases too but they said that was fine which it wasn't. They also came across another fault which was that it couldn't output anything above 1920x1200.

Yer I still would have returned it but tested it first :D

Np, glad you got it all sorted though

Rebuild tomorrow is now on the cards! Just picked up my processor, now just need to pray that my res and EPS extension cable come tomorrow, if not I wont be able to build until Monday :(

Can't wait to pair that Lightning up with ~5ghz of 6C12T goodness :D

Waiting for EK blocks stinks! My Lightnings are choking to death all sandwiched together! ;)

The not going above 1900x1200 problem wasn't a fault I found. It was a fault the tech guys over at OCUK told me they found which lead to my replacement.

It wasn't a fault if they were testing the DVI connections as neither of them are dual link.

If they were testing the DisplayPort connections then it was a fault.

I thought that would have been stating the obvious no?

I'm sure they tested the DisplayPort connection and not the single link DVI for high resolutions. I asked for details on what would cause the issue but wasn't given any

You can fit a DL-DVI-D cable into a single DVI port?

Their tech team seems pretty small and it wasn't that long ago this case happened, it may be a long shot but I could see if they recall what connectivity method they used to test my first card :)

Even if they made that mistake there was clearly something else wrong with it.

The new card I was sent runs at significantly higher voltage and clocks than my previous and is on average 20C cooler gaming

A DL-DVI cable will fit into a single link connector (its what I'm using).

I've just realised if I ever want to quadfire/sli I'm going to need another case! The huge 800D has been dwarfed by a GB X79-UD7.

Hopeful to have my build up and running in a few hours, I forgot how painful building is.

Hows the rebuild going? The build is the fun part, getting everything to work first time is the fustrating bit, got mine back up and running but for some reason all wireless connections failed, 3 kids and mrs laptops not connecting, but bf3 was(hard wired) so shame, never mind!!

It couldn't be going any worse tbh, can't get the thing to even switch on let alone post :(

Oh dear that good. Had a similar problem with a mobo once and one of the printed tracks was broken, used a piece of wire to check and it worked, obviously returned but it put my mind at rest knowing what it was.
Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Oh **** that doesn't sound good? Just check all your power connections are In place and your mobo connectors. Should at least get her to fire up :(

Good luck.
