7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Not yet it doesn't, 680 Lightning owners not have to wait for AB 2.2.3 to start pumping 1.3v through them? I'd be expecting 1300mhz as a minimum with increased voltages on the 680 Lightnings :)

Do the 680 Lightnings offer memory voltage control? as the 6x0 cards can offer some huge gains with memory clocks (had a 1.5ghz effective increase with the memory on my 670, +750)

Maybe ; ) Never flashed a gpu bios before but with the switch I may have to give it a try. Just a matter of finding a mirror

Was bored and downloaded a ROG themed OS, (first time doing anything like this) installed it and not only did it not work but could not open most files, learned my lesson, so got to reinstall everything now :(
May just wait till get new case, ssd and watercooling set up. But thats about a month away, fortunately busy with work so maybe just be able to hold off.
 
We already have better than a ghz edition with our stock clocks of 1040mhz ;)

I wouldn't flash it, completely different PCB, if anything you're likely to loose some of the power/voltage features.

Can't test anything myself atm, everything is boxed up awaiting rebuild if my CPU ever gets here :( Motherboard and 2600K are boxed up too, stuck with a macbook for the foreseeable.

I do think it is fair to say that at least this gen of lightning cards do very very well, just about everyone has touched 1300mhz on the 7970 side and I'd expect similar results on the 680 side of things. Once on water, who knows?

I thought your 3960x was coming before last weekend? Damn Russians.

I'm stuck with an ipad for now, no BF3 for me, all well my own fault :(

And i wish i could hit 1300.

Hey pgi, looking at the raystorm rx360 kit if i add a deep 240 rad as well, will the pump be ok and will it be able to cope with a big clock on my 2500(for now, 3770 later) and hopefully good clock on lightning x2 cf, Bearing in mind there temp sensitive ?

Rx360 & rx240 would be more than enough for cpu + dual video card's :)

The xspc kits look great, one of the best cpu blocks along with one of the best rads and probably the best pump in the d5 vario.

If I were to build a brand new loop today I'd be starting with one of those kits.

Due to stock shortages my chip is getting shipped from LA now rather than London :( should be here in the next 48 hours.

am i allowed to ask what you paid for your chip???

also, gonna be getting switch 810 so 360 rad up top, with fans in roof panel pulling/exhausting , for the 240 rad would you place this on the floor of case to keep airflow going in the same direction??? only reason why i ask as this will determine psu size/length and would you go push/pull with the 240? from what i have read push/pull knocks only a couple of degrees off but these lightnings need all the help they can get, yes????
 
I won't state an exact price, but its around the retail price of a 3820 :)

Don't bother with push/pull, if anything it can harm temps and will increase noise. You'll get temps probably in the low 40's with the lightnings under water with a voltage heavy overclock, anything less you're going to need a £600 water chiller and from there exotic cooling.

The 810 is a great choice, I'd have snapped one of those up given the chance :)

You want airflow to follow heat, so have the bottom two fans on the 240 intaking air into the case and the top three fans on the 360 exhausting out.
 
so if the rad is situated at front/bottom would you place a fan in the front panel above the rad so it forces the airflow slightly back then up towards exhaust???
 
Only if it pleases you cosmetically, I won't make any difference overall. Also the Z68 chipset doesn't get hot so you don't need to worry about airflow over the motherboard :)
